how to draw
* Starting in the bottom right corner (Point J), we draw a SHAPER glyph (J-H-E-A-D-G-I). Ending in the bottom left corner (Point I), we raise the finger (or touch pen) for a brief moment.

* Starting from the bottom left corner (Point I), we draw a WANT glyph (I-G-K-H). Ending in the bottom right corner of the inner rectangle (Point H), we raise the finger once again for a brief moment.

* Starting from Point H, we draw a HUMAN glyph (H-E-D-G-K-H or H-K-G-D-E-H), ending at the same point at which we started. Raising the finger for a moment, we move it towards the adjacent Center of the glyph grid (Point F).

* Starting from the center of the glyph grid (Point F), we draw a MIND glyph (F-D-G-K-F or F-K-G-D-F), ending at the same point at which we started. Raising the Finger for a moment, we move it towards one of the rightmost points of the glyph grid (C or J). It doesn't matter which of the two, as both are starting points for the last glyph and both are the same distance away.

* Starting from C or J, we draw a FUTURE glyph (C-E-H-J or J-H-E-C).

analysis
This means that we moved our finger 1 Grid unit between the HUMAN and MIND glyph and 2 units between the MIND and the FUTURE glyph. It also means that we didn't move between SHAPER and WANT or between WANT and HUMAN.

And drawing the glyphs, we moved our finger roughly 7,4 Units during the SHAPER glyph, 4,4 Units during the WANT glyph, 7,1 Units during the HUMAN glyph, 5,7 Units during the MIND glyph and 3 Units during the FUTURE glyph.

That means that our finger traveled roughly 27,85 Units drawing and 3 Units not drawing, which gives this sequence a 90,277% efficiency.

  1. Failing illustrations, is there a link to the coding of the points?

  2. The small lines between points symbolize 1 Unit of distance - meaning between Point A and B are 2 Units, whereas between B and D is only 1 Unit

  3. Thank you. I wonder if Nia take complexity of glyphing into consideration when awarding bonus points/kit. And whether distance is factored into that. It would be good to see them do so. Maybe V2 will have new sets or at least the ability for them to deepen the way they can make/code them.

  4. paul gray That, Paul, is exactly why I started this "Ingress: geometry edition". I was curious whether this level of geometric perfection might be used to analyse whether a glyph sequence is true or propaganda...

  5. paul gray Well...
Sequences of Length 1 are always 100% perfect.
Taking the One-Word-Test (Lady Vastra questioning Clara Oswald) into account we know that "truth is always singular".
Thus, it would be reasonable to assume that a TRUE sequence can be drawn with one line (except for the short moments the scanner needs to understand that one glyph has ended and the next hasn't started yet).

  6. Am I correct in thinking that the Imperfet glyph is the only one that currently involves 'skipping' a node? And if so, what if variations on Existing glyphs were made, whereby the same shape appears on scanner, but named alternately, to imply the need for a new method to create it by skipping a node at some point. It would certainly unsettle people au fait with existing glyph patterns. It could be seen as a subtle NZeer influence.

  7. paul gray Well, my distance-assumption for the IMPERFECT glyph is that the agent draws from point G to the middle between F and H and then to E before returning to point F.

But you're right, it could create an unsettling feeling which however may have its origin in both of the exogenous factions. Remember that an unsettling feeling may have all sorts of benevolent and non-benevolent motivations.
