so, general question... we know that ADA passed the "turing test", we also have many studies showing how the turing test can actually be gamed by very complex programming and in fact you can write programs to create the allusion of AI for many (the chinese room thought experiment). At what point are we certain that she began acting on her own and has not been following a program and orders by someone else. Are we certain that those orders that she delivered for Jarvis and others and even the Katalena pre Zurich encounters, were not done on the orders of some programming. NOt to call ADA a gun, but how certain are we she is not? How can we prove, beyond doubt, that she is truly a separate entity working on her own and not some other programming? I would like to call for the evidence and proof that ADA is a complete entity. That she is not following someone else's computer orders, that she has a consciousness (or not). http://niantic.schlarp.com/_media/investigation:cha...
Lemme see if I can find it ... there was a recent examination of this hypothesis that placed it outside of the potential of possibility due to the computational power required to simulate such a complex expression like what we call reality.
ReplyDeleteBy looking at one fairly simple interaction that is highly common and the computational power required to simulate it.. than multiplying it’s iterations they found our current universe does not contain anywhere close to enough “power” to run even a fraction of the interactions ...
This idea is in some sort mediated from the Plato's Cave Myth; a path that also The Matrix used.
ReplyDeleteIs not so difficoult move into this: brain itself is blind and deaf. All the think we know is just minimal energetic impulses and biochemical solutions, so, why not a reality into another reality into another one?
Another movie have to be seen on this topic is Inception.
Stoner undergrads love this question. Does it matter whether our reality is a simulation or not? It's the only layer/level of reality we can access.
ReplyDeleteIt only matters when the program reaches its conclusion. Does the program then get rebooted or deleted and do we as part of the program have a choice in the matter?
ReplyDeleteDaryl Whelan if we become aware of it being a simulation it opens up the possibilities of us directly manipulating the simulation.
ReplyDeleteWe could find the equivalent to a buffer overflow and inject our own routines 😈😈😈
Perhaps if we force enough matter into a black hole at once... with the last large arrangement of matter entangled with a quantum computational system.. we could transfer the coded routines into reality that controls ours?
Have you read Accelerando, Steven Curley? Because that sounds a lot like a minor plot point mentioned toward the end of the book.
