So, i just saw the email about, well remembering.
So, i just saw the email about, well remembering. Mind palaces. This is an ancient technique. Homers iliad and odyssey. Pick a place you know, or build one in your head. The Parthenon was one. Walk to the statue of zeus, tell a part of the story, about zeues. Walk to the statue of Appollo, tell a part of the story about Appollo. We all do this any way. Then learn 1000 pages, this statue of a god, then that one.
A place you know, a story that is meaningful to you.
Folks that do "amazing" memory tricks, this is all they do. Mind palaces. It does take practice, but it it does not take intelligence. "Every good boy does fine"
Mnemonics. Homer, a blind man who was probably illiterate, knew how to recite more than 2000 pages ( in english text, point is, it was a long story) Mnemonic learning. This reminds me of that, that means those things remind me of the next thing.

I always called it compartmentalizing my memories and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThis memory in this box. That thought in that one over there. List the key to that one. Don't wanna find the key to number 3082.
Call it anything YOU would like. Thats the point. You already remember your whole life. Thats a stagering achievement. Only done because it means something to you.
ReplyDeleteRemembering someone elses life, thats hard. So, the technique is, find a mind palace. Go to or mentally make a place that means a lot to you. Then take x, y and z memories or thoughts to that place.
My coffee table is greece. On the left side of the table is Appollo.
My freezer is norway, above my freezer is the great bear of ragnarok. Fenrir is in the fridge, waiting for the bear. The bear will devourve the fridge light (the sun), the wolf, fenrir, will devour the moon. The world will die covered in ice.
Norse mythology. I remember this only because, fenrir lives in my fridge.
I'm not saying everyone else is wrong. And I am agreeing with your response to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm saying I didn't know what a mind palace is, or was, so I called what I came up with my own name, and there are probably plenty of people who do the same.
Mind palace, file system, or even seperate amusement parks for the important, life altering memories.
