Hello investigators!

Hello investigators!
Thank you for comments and advice on my question about simulacrum before. After that my knowledge has become more enriching.

Today, I want to know what shard is.

[What I already know]
・The Shards are peaces of simulacrum or artifact that was collapsed by something accident and appeared in the portal network.
・The number of shards is indeterminate.
・Even if we do not have all the shards, we can restore it from majority of shards we have.
・If arbitrary conditions such as portal level are met, the Shard can periodically move to another portal through the portal link.
・Shards can not stay in the same portal for a long time.
It gets hidden in the portal network after an arbitrary period of time and moves to a random destination.

[My questions]

1. What causes that happen around simulacrum or artifact to become the Shards?

2. Living human beings (not simulacrum) can not be Shards?

3. I think there is some time lag before it appears on the map after simulacurum or artifact becomes Shard. Why is this?

4. When the body be restored without some Shards, Shards that could not be collected may be discovered later. And it does not dissapear.
Is the restored body something changed from before it became Shards?

5. The persons (or thing) that has become a shard ever that I know are the following:
Roland Jarvis(2times)
Recursion Artifacts <
HELIOS Artifact
Devra Bogdanovich
Stein Lightman
Misty Hannah
Yuri Alaric Nagassa
Enoch Dalby
Carrie Campbell
Oliver Lynton-Wolfe
Victor Kureze
Martin Schubert
A Detection Algorithm (ADA)
Ezekiel Calvin
Besides these, do you know a person or thing that I don't know?

Please give me your knowlidge.

  1. Well, as far as I'm aware, it has yet to be proven or disproven that a human that has not become a simulacrum can shard. I personally don't see how that would happen, but much of the science of XM is still not known. As for what causes something to shard it can be a number of things. An XM flare, a ceremony used to summon the objects, or they simply have been dormant and are just now resurfacing.

  2. So, let's see how many I can try to answer. More opinions and voices will be needed-I'm just one person after all.

The first question: What causes an artifact or a simulacrum to become Shards?

Well, that depends. In some cases, like the Helios and Recursion Artifacts, they were already Shards to begin with. They were pieces and were needed to be assembled.

In others, particularly Simulacrum, it's a bit more tricky. We know that the Researchers became Shards after being absorbed into the Portal Network before Shonin began. As for Roland Jarvis (the first person to become Shards, he had to be exposed to Dark XM while trapped in the Portals in 2013.

So, for Simulacra, the method of becoming Shards is not one but many. Mass exposure to XM or Dark XM while in the simulacrum state might be the key.

Now, your second question. Can a living being become Shards?

That's an interesting one. We've never seen one become Shards. All the individuals who became Shards were simulacra-aka, they weren't human to begin with.

If it's possible we haven't seen it yet.

Ok, your third question: not sure about that.

And the fourth: You missed the Recursion Artifacts. Other than that, your list is good.

Mustafa Said Thank you for answer faster :)
I would like to hear also opinions or hypotheses of others.

  4. Good questions to ask MailEater 😄

I can only give you my opinion but here it goes...

    1) What causes a simulacrum/artefact to Shard?

My first thought would be some sort of extreme xm event that would disrupt, say, a simulacrum. This would be an example of what happened to Jarvis (epiphany night) and the other researchers (Shonin stone incident). What caused all of the researchers to shard when only a few were in close proximity to the Shonin incident is just speculation but perhaps they were (are?) all entangled in some way by their association with ABDN. This connection could have been the conduit along which which the energy of the Shonin stone explosion travelled causing them to shard as a group.

One point about people sharding that I am intrigued about is Jahan. She appeared to shard after Persepolis but nothing ever came of that. Did she spontaneously reassemble, perhaps at her palace, or was she bought back together by some other means?

Artefacts are a different matter I feel... some may be deliberately sharded to try and destroy or hide them whilst some may emerge from an xm layer spontaneously. My feeling is that sharded artefacts share a great deal in common with Prime artefacts in that they both have a greater than normal interaction with xm. This intrinsically XM related property may be what allows them to become part of the portal network and re-emerge.

    2. Living beings can not shard

I'd say no.... and it's down to the degree of xm interaction described above. In order for something to become shards, it must have a deeper than normal connection with the xm layers eg by being a simulacrum or an xm artefact.

    3) Time lags

    Now there's a strange one....

Time is after all a dimensional and xm is transdimensional. Perhaps there isn't really a lag as such, just how we perceive it. If a person passes through a door into a different room (moves in the 3rd dimension) then perhaps moving through an xm layer enables movement in the 4th? We just see it as a lag but it's nothing more complicated than walking though a 4th dimensional door for the shards.

    4) Partial Shards

I was always of the opinion that the total number of shards always reconnected but just at the place where the majority of them collected, with potential interaction from the prevailing xm conditions. That being said, Jarvis was clearly 'changed' after his experience and whether that is due to incomplete reassembly or his own fragile mental state is up for discussion.

    5) Moar shards

Other than Jahan and whether she did or didn't shard and, if so, how she reassembled... I think that's a fairly complete list 😀👌

Rambling over. Hope it's useful or at least something to think about and thank you for asking for my input 💚💙

  5. Richard Jennings Thank you for answer.
I have to peruse them carefully.
And I will search and study also by my own.

  6. Hank Johnson's Shards?!
Is this the first case that a living human (not Simulacrum) became a Shard? Or is Hank still Simulacrum in fact...?

  7. It's all a little confusing to be honest.

It could be that the researchers are being used to represent archetypes rather than themselves specifically.

    Mmm, there's a possibility.
I am also interested in different looks from conventional shards.
