"Why has the activation of the Obsidian Shield caused a global xm famine?"

The choices speak for themselves and we have very little information to go on at the moment. The most common theories I've seen involve the shield soaking up the xm for power or the shield blocking both the Shapers and the N'Zeer equally.
Alternatively, perhaps the N'Zeer were actually responsible for xm or, even more intriguingly, it was the conflict between the Shapers and the N'Zeer that produced xm as a byproduct. With the N'Zeer signal blocked, the portals are no longer producing/leaking excess xm.

so far I'm leaning toward a broader-than-expected effect, but I haven't ruled out a third party action timed to make the blame fall on the acolyte.

ReplyDeleteI suppose the shield is much more and both Jahan and the Acolyte were tricked into activating it.
ReplyDeleteI would like to hear a response from both about the current situation.
I feel that the shield is powered by XM, but like a motor or large transformer, there is an intial inrush that uses a lot of power and once it's up to full strength, the XM might flow again.

ReplyDeleteI believe there is a larger force at play that benefits from the proliferation of XM, specifically the XM generated by the Green vs. Blue conflict. I think there will come a day that they collaborate together against this overarching force. The shield has somehow stemmed some of this higher level conflict... Reducing the XM bleed into our world.
ReplyDeletexm is is the source of all conflict. now that it's gone, can we all just start to get along? We're treating xm and the portals network and weapons and shields and other xm powered artifacts like it's a resource for our use, and that somehow we have a right to it, and have a right to control it, and have a right to manipulate it for our own ends and purposes. Meanwhile what if the XM itself is in fact the sentient being seeking to manipulate and control us ... now that we are shielded from the xm, can we finally be free enough of its influence to think for ourselves again?

ReplyDeleteGaffer Venar presumably Devra Bogdanovich is trying to recover her memories and piece her life back together as best she can after the events of Abaddon. Her take on this would be interesting. Given her past efforts with the portal virus, she might welcome this development.

ReplyDeleteInitially with my local community.. I don't have a clear timeline for the past events.. I went with instinct on this..
Seems like mumu noticed that the report of missing xm started as the announcement of the winner was made - And with the release of all the artifacts... I feel like the shield doesn't just block the N'zeer or the shapers... But both.. - If Obsidius did activate it perhaps that would explain the slow disappearance of their conflicts from our history.. This time around the activation of the shield will not limit us from interacting with what xm we are able to tap into still. We discovered it thru other means than the shapers or N'zeers influence - it's our discover now as well.. The portals still exist and they are still xm systems... Perhaps we shall find less free xm... We will have to use our constructs to continue our path toward enlightenment... Power cubes, bursters,.. the tools we use with our scanners are humanities creations..
The obsidian shield was activated to block N'Zeer. Shapers and N'zeer feed themselves with XM. The activation is part of a plan to weak N'zeer and returne them to their original block.

The shield strengthened the barrier between dimensions, which let less xm leak through portals.
