Jahan promised too much, she promised a magic technology that will fix all humanity problems. Technology is good and has help humanity go very far but it not a magic pill to solve all out problem. We need the wisdom that the shapers (our friends, on her words) will provide us with to help ourselves use it to solve said problems. Shapers don't offer a free magic pill but the wisdom to use what we have to solve our problems and reach the ultimate

War and peace speak different languages, some people does not understand very well the language of peace, reaching them with a language they understand will on time get them to understand your language and on that moment you will see that your mission has succeeded and they have reach enlightened.

When i asked this question, i got a interesting look from her, the kind of look you get from your mother when you keep insisting on something, she already told you she can't give you, i told her that many people have asked me to ask the question, so i needed to ask it. after that she went back to smile and told me that, of course, they were right to ask, but that is something that needed to stay between Jarvis and her. She could not reveal the information without breaking her promise.
What or who is the Ultimate?
imagine all people being able to reach to you and you being able to reach them back, the ultimate is the ultimate way to reach everyone and being able to fill them with love and compassion. That the ultimate.

What distinguished you from Jarvis, why did you reach to ADA when he wanted to destroy her?
She told me that Jarvis and her have different ways to reach the same destination and that is OK, she thinks his way is as valid as well (and she seem a little apologetic) but that if we reach anyone and everyone with the empathy they deserve, they all will see your good will and help you on return, all the above, of course include ADA, that why she reached to her on her moment on need.
I'm really sorry to Steven Wilson and Ariel Diana, as I could not ask their question. I was given very limited time and I did my best, sorry guys.
On general my meeting with the Acolyte in Vienna left me a good feeling behind, she did not behave as the extremist I was expecting, but as a reasonable person that believes on Empathy as a way to go forward on the world. I was surprised on how much I like her, but the investigator part of myself keep asking if this is a real feeling or it has been caused/influenced by the XM around the area.

I'm guessing the men who were shot -- were they alive to comment -- might suggest that while a bullet to the back of the head makes a definite statement, describing it as a "language" of any kind is a stretch.

Everyone who talked to her describes her as a charismatic leader (including myself). She seems also trustworthy to me and I have faith in her.

It seems to me that whereas Roland Jarvis was focused almost entirely on the end goal - the ultimate - this Acolyte is more interested on how the application of that wisdom in the present world can be broadened. Silence as a promise to Jarvis while not knowing his precise state is an interesting position - has the acolyte herself been barred from the cabin, too?

ReplyDeleteMartin Zehetmayer How do you know that A Detection Algorithm is purely "logical" or "bound to bits and bytes"? It is quite likely that she relies in part on quantum computation (originally by hijacking experimental facility qubits, and then when she had access to it, using the Quantum Computational Substrate, a technology left behind by the N'zeer that appears related to XM and CM). ADA is capable of executing logical processes much faster than bio-humans, but appears to have a sense of her level of overall well-being, and emotional state. She can be agitated, angry, disappointed, hurt -- as she was after she was cut off from the Substrate after her Abaddon shard event. She seems to care about H. Richard Loeb and Klue S., in her way. She's somewhat warped, the same way a child raise by abusive parents might be (a fact I mostly blame on Ezekiel Calvin), but she's a fully-formed person.
ReplyDeleteAuros Harman I do not know, that is why I asked. She is self-aware and a full grown AI, but nevertheless she is (very very complex) code. You have a point when bringing the N'zeer substrate in - this could have changed a lot of internal processes and structures of ADA.

Martin Zehetmayer - I had a very long and interesting discussion with Steve Callahan (whom I can't seem to + mention at the moment, I guess b/c he hasn't commented here yet) in which one of the points I was trying to make is that "Does ADA, or another AI, have a soul?" is an ill-formed query. It begs the question of what you mean by "soul".

Just to pull a large block-quote from my comment on the topic there:
[I]f what you mean by "soul" is "XM personality pattern", then we know that ADA's personality was sharded and reassembled in the XM portal network, which pretty strongly suggests an equivalence with human personhood.
And then there's some further question-begging going on. Say that our ongoing research into cognition eventually determines that there really is some transdimensional soul-stuff that is integral to human personhood, and it requires carbon/water structure to work. But we then encounter other beings -- methane/ammonia beings, or silicon / selenium-gallium arsenide beings -- who display all the properties of sapience, who are a thousand years more advanced than we are, and who approach peacefully. They are fascinated by the uniqueness of our species -- our art and stories, and our descriptions of the experience our particular sensorium provides. They offer to help us expand our horizons in peace and prosperity. Do we declare these beings to be non-people? Not truly conscious? Or do we assume that, given the way they seem, they probably perform the functions served by our transdimensional soul stuff using something else, perhaps even a complex arrangement of regular old matter that we just don't understand yet? I come down on the side of giving credit for personhood broadly, because tailoring it narrowly is a fast track to justifying genocide.
