"What is the special sensitive power of Hubert Farlowe"
Part 4 in my series of answer polls to flint dille's questions posed on signed copies of Tycho C.'s Ingress Origins.
This is a really tricky one. Despite at one time being a prolific poster on G+, there is still so little we know for sure about Farlowes agenda and whereabouts.
As always, I will give my personal analysis and also attempt to present other perspectives.
My personal view is that Farlowe possess a keen sense of situational awareness and threat detection that is heightened and enhanced by xm. This explains his uncanny ability to detect and intercept would be assassins of Devra Bogdanovich twice in Ingress Origins.
There is, however. some ambiguity in this question: it's not clear whether Farlowe gained additional abilities after interacting with Jarvis. There is evidence that Farlowe is now some sort of xm entity but he had emphatically denied that he is a simulacrum on multiple occasions.
There is also the matter of his extensive travels, along with his cryptic requests for "time checks". I believe that a plausible explanation is that Farlowe is capable of " hyper threading", traveling through the portal network through space....and perhaps TIME as well. Whether, if true, this is his sensitive power or related to his current condition is, alas unclear. Perhaps flint dille and/or Edgar Allan Wright might be able to shed some additional insights on this. I'd be especially curious to hear from Dr. Wright as, according to Origins, Farlowe was due to pay him and Tycho s visit. I wonder if he ever did? Farlowe also appears to have some sort of special connection to NL1331.
Another interpretation, perhaps not distinct or mutually exclusive from others, is that, post Epiphany night, Farlowe was revealed to be some sort of human portal.
As always, I look forward to seeing the distribution of views on this topic within the investigative community. I'm sure there are a number of interesting theories and analyses that will emerge.

I think a mixture of these. Definitely a human portal, but also an inherent ability to find what he's looking for. Sort of like Hank's inherent ability to locate portals, so is Farlowe's ability to locate sensetives...maybe
ReplyDeleteI agree Daniel Beaudoin. This question is difficult to unpack because of the issue of timing as well: the post-Niantic Hubert Farlowe could be a different entity with different abilities altogether. I personally believe that, if Farlowe could travel through space-time, we would have a clearer indication of it. At the moment, memory skips seems to explain a lot of Farlowes behaviour. I don't know what he is now but....Occam's Razor when in doubt.
ReplyDeleteIf he can travel through time, it would rather give him a sense of things about to happen/awareness as future him, merges with present him.
ReplyDeleteIt was once hinted at, that whenever Felicia Hajra-Lee is able to see through the eyes of sensitives, those are also moments where those same sensitives have "black out" moments, where although they function normally, they have no memory of them. While I don't think that's always the case its peculiar that Felicia can see through their eyes and write about there actions, even when they themselves don't fully remember them. Or...and this is a bit more out there...what if what Felicia writes changes the past? While most of her writing does depict actual events as they happened, hinting at clairvoyance, what if when she take artistic licence with her writing, it also changes those moments in the past. What if that is what creates the black-outs for some people? Idk, just some fringe theories..
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued by the concept of Hubert Farlowe as a human portal. What properties would we expect such an entity to possess? Could he be linked/link himself to other portals? Is this the form that his travels take; more akin to astral projection than physical travel?

ReplyDeleteAfter reading ingress Origins again today, I change my opinion to "Situation/threat awarness" cause this is mentioned there.
ReplyDeleteAchim S. I'm sure my views on these questions will definitely evolve as well! I have to say that, in a sense, both answers are correct but I think situational awareness is a better fit with his original sensitive power, whatever else might have befallen him after interacting with Jarvis's body.
