This is a good example of what i mean, completely missing on the English one:

The great crisis in his life that caused her serious illness, the shock of it to be on the verge of death and the permanent deafness that originated it was a crucial change in his life. His work after 1793 has a depth and seriousness nuevas. His attitude had become more critical and its deafness had sharpened its interior receptivity. Its language became rich and enigmatic. The ideas of the Enlightenment became a constant reference . Francisco Zapater his recognized friend and biographer, who said that Goya in the last decade of the eighteenth century, "was shaken by the new ideas that roamed Europe"  But his ideas evolved into skepticism. He spent than relying on the Enlightenment which sought to improve society by showing its errors and vices to become a precursor of today's world that had lost confidence in the intellectual capacity of the people to rebuild their society and only finds a dark world without ideal. This transit and evolution in his thinking came during the preparation of the Caprichos and clearly in laminae with satires of clear illustrated inspiration and others where its skepticism appears in the possibilities hombre.

Why did he got sick and of what? What make him lost his confidence on human advancement?
