So question - When Essex first started - there was the weekly quiz/list of questions for consideration - that people would answer and discuss as a way to gain entry to Essex posting ability and the hangouts, etc.  As there is a renewed sense of story exploration - is it possible to have a set of questions so those asking to be in the hangouts and such can complete???

  1. Hi JoJo Stratton, in my case, I didn't know about an HO since recent print screen conversation about Edgar Allan Wright persecution felling. I'm a new member of the essex group but since Helios, I've benn following the investigación. I support your idea because I want to share the findings with agents at my country who wants to know more about Niantic Project and It's mistery

  2. Now that Niantic is no longer connected to Google, would there be harm in moving the chat to an alternative service that allows more than 100 users?

  3. a way to share your passion of discovering what is truly happening in the world of XM with fellow investigators, and recruit those who desire to jump down the rabbit hole.

  4. there always was an IRC associated with Niantic - not sure that ever took off :)

  5. what are the archiving aspects for those alternate services - it is very useful to be able to come back and read over archived items and what was missed

  6. Regarding "alternative services" I refer the inquiry to the wisdom of Admiral Grace Hopper who reminded us that ''Standards are great. There are so many to choose from."

  7. A sieve is a sieve. Pass the quiz to gain entrance. That is what you are talking about here. What you are really asking is: Has the applicant read the "official canon" and will the applicant continue the current line of thinking?

The problem with a sieve is that it creates an environment of group think. This kind of environment inevitably becomes sclerotic because nobody is going to challenge old ideas in light of new evidence.

  8. JoJo Stratton I am in the IRC channels (there are several) but you are correct that IRC itself doesn't archive.  A bot can easily perform that function in IRC though and publish the channel's conversation somewhere.  IRC is "less" multimedia friendly, though not entirely.

  9. Daniel Beaudoin There hasn't been a 100 member limit for over a year now. :) CUrrent limit is 150, and the hangout at present has 101 in it.

For moving, at this point, the NPCs are still only on hangouts, and Niantic is still using G+ for intel and leaks. Until that changes, IMO we should stay put.

  10. Sarah Rosen poking old ideas with new sticks is a very fun activity - of course you have to know the old ideas, and the new sticks to make that work

  11. and as to other channels in general - the idea is discussion and advancement of ideas and conversations - so where ever that happens, for me, it is always a good thing

  12. JoJo Stratton it is fun to poke old ideas with new sticks, but when those given the privilege of taking a poke must first prove that they have received the catechism new ideas seldom make it past the sieve. And that is the purpose of the sieve: to keep the heretics out of the temple.

  13. So - how to get new people poking then?

  14. I would love the idea, I want some agents in my country to be involved on the investigation and not only playing a game they don't have a bigger picture of.

  15. I would love to hear more voices as well - so, how to do that?

  16. Yes there are other groups discussing story, which is a good thing. Posting only in one place does not have to be a bad thing or bias, it means you just talk there and no where else. It is the act of discussion that is what interests me. Are you adding your voice somewhere or you listening to other voices. And people do tend to cluster where they feel connected to the discussion in some aspect. Kinda like choosing green or blue... People go to one place or the other for so many different reasons. I think the concept of tribes is often used.

  17. QuantumIngressEffectIngress QuantumEffect members of the AM group were active in Essex but chose to leave when challenged to provide backing for their postings. All views are welcomed. Posters just must be willing to use canonical sources and "show their work" on their postings.

  18. I'd happily join hangout if invited. I think people need to realize that someone who has started playing in the last few months has an enormous amount of disparate information to sieve through to try and get to grips with the story. If people who have been here from the very beginning have trouble keeping things straight, imagine how overwhelmed newcomers feel! Keeping the community accessible and making summation guides prominent should be a priority if you want to get new people involved

  19. Making guides is actually an AWESOME way to get into the story - so is working on the wiki :P  Seriously - when you start having to put together a guide - you begin to dig through and really get into the material.

  20. I've been member of Essex not for a really long time. I would really love to discuss the story with other agents who are interested through HO.
