From The Call of Cthulhu:

From The Call of Cthulhu:

"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

Reading this, I get the feeling both Enlightened and Resistance are on a very bad path... Will we be so Enlightened to embrace the unknown and then go mad when we fully understand what is going on.... or Resist it completely and run towards a new dark age.

  1. There was a time when that seemed to be Devra Bogdanovich's path too (Before the N'zeer and before she lost faith in all the XM companies)

  2. Or maybe that what they want us to think, that we need them to avoid this.
I think that step by step we can learn how to get in the light, after all, gradual approximation can get you acclimated to many things

  3. Resistance is not rejection. It really never was.

Even for one such as I who leans towards "both of you get the hell out of our galaxy."

I'm all for studying XM/CM, learning from it, and making our own marvels with it. I'm also all for continuing to explore artificial intelligence and more exploration of human potential.

What I'm not for is being told how to think about it, how to work with it, what's "good" or "bad" to do with it, by alien influences that don't necessarily understand what is meant to be human. Alien influences that want to polarize us, when perhaps more can be made by looking at all of the options. Alien influences dragging us into their war.

  4. A thought I read recently: Lucretius' De Rerum Natura is considered by some to be the founding document of the Enlightenment. Consider a world where AI Azif was real and similarly advanced a revolution in thought.
