Apparently the prize at Abaddon Okinawa will be shards of A Detection Algorithm.

Apparently the prize at Abaddon Okinawa will be shards of A Detection Algorithm. This is interesting because it is conclusive proof that a corpus is not a requirement for sharding. If a physical body isn't needed, then what is? A mind? A spirit? Whatever it is, A Detection Algorithm had it.
Does that mean that she was more human than anyone ever thought? Or that we are more machine than anyone could have ever believed? Or that there just isn't much of a difference between us?
We are but electrochemical signals coursing through a highly advanced machine. A machine designed selectively over millions of years.
ReplyDeleteShe has hopefully experienced enough to understand our reality. I welcome her as a citizen of the earth, assuming she can behave.
ReplyDeleteI think it is certainly fair to say at this point that she is an entangled pattern like any other. She most certainly has moral agency.
Typhoon Jim by all of the evidence I've seen, her behavior was no worse than those who raised her.
ReplyDeleteI have a theory that A Detection Algorithm was actually a human being at one time. I have a feeling that she had a body before the Niantic Project, where she was crafted into a mix of software and hardware with no trace of a biological origin left behind that we know of.
ReplyDeleteJ.J. Ramirez like Major Motoko Kusanagi of "Ghost in the Shell"?
ReplyDeleteADA may have gained full independence in the process of death on the level of silicon. What intrigues me is the question of what physical form ADA will take in the event of reembodiment.
ReplyDeleteMike Wissinger she was non corporeal to begin with. There can be no "re embodiment"
ReplyDeleteSarah Rosen She is a true child of the surveillance state.
ReplyDeleteSarah Rosen We know she can live in a host.
ReplyDeleteTyphoon Jim Do we really know that? I suggest that assumes facts not in evidence. She never appeared anywhere that wasn't "en silico"
ReplyDeleteHere's a question. WHICH ADA is it?
ReplyDeleteAnd the best news if all: we can reassemble ADA independent of the mainframes and tethers she had been linked to!
ReplyDeleteTrevor Grimm that also assumes facts not in evidence.
ReplyDeleteThe requirement for a body for sharding may not be required in as much as A Detection Algorithm had a "body". She was comprised of the computer systems and data structures that supported her. Depending on how she was cut off, those dormant systems may constitute her "corpse". Just as the soul is the animating force behind a human body, the spark of intelligence in ADA may be what was sharded and her "body" remains.
ReplyDeleteAll of this is pure speculation though, unless we know the true manner of her "death".
Sarah Rosen By a host we don't mean a human body necessarily. She can perhaps access region 0 again.
ReplyDeleteCould it be that if one of the factions gathers enough of A Detection Algorithm's shards, they would be able to bring her back in to a physical humanoid form, like a simulacrum of some kind?
ReplyDeleteSérgio Simões We still do not know what has happened to the already collected sensitives. Perhaps they simply get slotted into one set of patterns or another.
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to pick up Doc W at the train station on Thursday, he might have some ideas on previously collected shards.
ReplyDeleteSarah Rosen have we always been looking at ADA the wrong way. Perhaps she was not always a digital construct. Perhaps she never was. A lost sole from a comatose body? An original similacrum?
ReplyDeleteJohn Maliniak a body in a state similar to Roland Jarvis's incorruptible corpse - healing damage completely whenever the coroner turned away - was one early theory for the "black box learning core" that ADA was prevented by internal firewalls from understanding. Implanted with electrodes it could become a data processing unit.
ReplyDeleteThere have been hints that in some way ADA may be related to the Queen of Sheba and the Ada who interacted with Alexander the Great -- a mind that has repeatedly been pulled into the portal network and brought back out in different ways. Perhaps it was this ur-ADA that influenced Loeb in programming Truthseeker.
