    I have come to side with the majority on this. It is am elaborate prank community-organized event. Not one of the principals from Niantic has even mentioned it. If it were real, they would be pumping it.

    It's an elaborate player-run event, which doesn't totally surprise me given that no official Niantic account ever interacted with Margaret or the BDRB. That's not the same thing as a prank.

    I've spoken with the person behind this and expressed concern that it wasn't made clear from the start that this was all fan-fiction, and that Essex ended up being used to put a veneer of canonicity to it. They will try and be more clear about it in the future.

    I think the entire event was a stunt by Nviea Sarriha (can't link to his profile because restricted his account) to sell t-shirts, and it was dishonest of him to not admit that up front. https://storify.com/bauserdotcom/the-tedio-conspiracy

    I'm a little disappointed how gullible some members of Operation Essex were. I thought you people were supposed to be investigators.

    Nviea seems to be deleting/hiding most of the involved accounts now, but Tedio Global is still pushing the t-shirts.
