Kalash of Cultures - Pakistan: http://youtu.be/qEXnEfdvv6s The argument: 1. Watch the video; this Dardic mountain tribe plays polo. They fiercely fought for their independence through the ages, till the British arrived; at which point they adopted some British customs like playing polo on weekends (although they claim they invented the game first). 2. The Kalasha have lived in geographic isolation for so long that their DNA has diverged. But, there are markers to suggest that they come from around the Mediterranean(that is, that they are Dardic). There are 2 theories as to how they got there: a. They were travellers along the silk route who decided to settle in a scenic location and sell spices, apricots and cherries (the latter two do not grow in the subcontinent, only in the Mediterranean; and with no contact with the outside world for centuries, there's no other way they could've gotten these fruits) b. I have come to side with the majority on this. It is am elaborate prank community-organized event. Not one of the principals from Niantic has even mentioned it. If it were real, they would be pumping it.
ReplyDeleteSeems that way... Either way, just making ppl aware of it.
ReplyDeleteSarah Rosen you're so sure of yourself
ReplyDeleteIt's an elaborate player-run event, which doesn't totally surprise me given that no official Niantic account ever interacted with Margaret or the BDRB. That's not the same thing as a prank.
ReplyDeleteBryant Durrell Umm, true. I think Sarah Rosen might have used the word "prank" a bit strongly.
ReplyDeleteBryant Durrell I fixed it for you.

ReplyDeleteYeah, looks like this is the reason the the Op Essex board has been spammed with those Mystic posts.
ReplyDeleteI've spoken with the person behind this and expressed concern that it wasn't made clear from the start that this was all fan-fiction, and that Essex ended up being used to put a veneer of canonicity to it. They will try and be more clear about it in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think the entire event was a stunt by Nviea Sarriha (can't link to his profile because restricted his account) to sell t-shirts, and it was dishonest of him to not admit that up front. https://storify.com/bauserdotcom/the-tedio-conspiracy
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disappointed how gullible some members of Operation Essex were. I thought you people were supposed to be investigators.
Nviea seems to be deleting/hiding most of the involved accounts now, but Tedio Global is still pushing the t-shirts.
Michael Bauser I found that writeup fascinating, did you intentionally leave out the link between the names themselves. Evin Harris and NIVEa SaIRRAHa?
