Where are the Niantic Sensitives?

A singular event happened on Epiphany Night at CERN. Under the direction of Ezekiel Calvin a group of extraordinary individuals had been gathered to study XM, but at the same time they themselves were the focus of the project's analysis. We have seen images and read stories of them having extraordinary insights, but what happened after that has been hidden by the distraction of the escape of Devra Bogdanovich and the assassination of Roland Jarvis.
Now an event at the #13Magnus Sanctum in Afghanistan has resulted in an XM wave intended to bar the Antimagnus ritual from destabilizing the portal barrier that protects this planet from the N'Zeer. As a side effect of that event we have seen several of the original sensitives appear to vanish. One, Hank Johnson, was known to be a recursive immortal since prior to the Niantic project's inception. At the same time we know that Hubert Farlowe was not similarly effected. He is still active despite having been transformed into an XM being upon the death of his physical body at the hands of 855.
Are all the sensitives in a state similar to that of Hank Johnson? What happened at CERN that we did not see? Calvin assembled 9 men and 3 women.
Devra Bogdanovich and Oliver Lynton-Wolfe were present and confirmed to vanish
Viktor Kureze and Carrie Campbell were both dead of other causes before the event
Martin Schubert, Yuri Alaric Nagassa, and Stein Lightman all had forebodings of dread leading up to the event and none have been heard from since.

Roland Jarvis had refused Calvin's offers of CM treatments to extend the life of his simulacrum body forged at Cupid's Span, opting instead to return to "the ultimate"
Ezekiel Calvin himself has also been missing since Azmati's XM wave. Was Niantic all about securing his own immortality? It seems clear that we must classify him with the other Niantic sensitives.
Who, then, is the 9th man? Johnson was long gone on Epiphany Night and had already been the subject of the 13 Magnus ritual. Was Henry Bowles, ADA's lead developer and 855's physician since ADA's experiment, the final member of the 13? Did he likewise disappear from Afganistan? If so, might the Viator have already recursed and be on the move to undo Jahan's damage?
Why would the Niantic sensitives have disappeared along with Hank, and what happened to them at CERN? Could it be that OLW's power cube experiment was the culmination of a project he didn't know he was a part of? Were all the sensitives assembled that night already XM simulacra without knowing it? Are their bodies still stored CERN, or have they been moved by November Lima and similar means to undisclosed locations around the world?
If any of the above individuals are still active then we can reject this theory. If they are all gone, then Bowles' confidant 855 may be the only person in a position to confirm or refute it. Clearly he knows something about the deeper secrets behind the Niantic Project.
is this part of what A Detection Algorithm is designed to be unable to know? Is the learning core at the heart of ADA's sapience a preserved Magnus vessel? Perhaps that of Turing himself or the result of Susanna Moyer's father's experiments.
These are all questions whose answers will be complex, but contemplating them seems to reveal a pattern spiraling around a central point: Why did they vanish? Where did they go? Are the fragments bouncing around the portal web right now our chance to bring them back?

It may even be that their physical bodies were killed in the Epiphany Night event and that's what turned them into simulacrums. Either way, I'm really curious what is at the old Niantic Project facility?

If the CERN portal was chosen for its connection to the Sanctum they may have been transported there even without being simulacra. Johnson and Yates found such a connected pair of portals in Africa.
ReplyDeleteOk, let think that they are. So what did the shot that Devra Bogdanovich injected herself with? Who can you render an XM simulacrum immune to XM?
ReplyDeleteAna Prados that's tough to say. Remember that Bogdanovich was offsite during the peak of the power cube detonation. She may be in a different state from the others. We do know that Johnson was able to survive a significant CM assault at Luizi, so if she was a simulacrum it could simply have had an unexpected result compared to baseline test subjects.
ReplyDeletePAC might be the 13th, as he was involved in tuning ADA. IIRC he was not at CERN during Epiphany Night, so he is not affected by the Afghanistan event.
