Investigator Daniel Hawley brought this to my attention earlier. Kookynie is an old Gold Mining town. By now, we all know that Dark XM can be found in these types of mines/caves near gold deposits.
I believe Hubert Farlowe is looking for some leverage against Antoine Smith. Smith was almost killed by Dark XM once. It may be the one thing Farlowe can utilize to get what he wants out of him.
Strategic Explorations and Smith may be found poking around in the same areas, looking for more Dark XM to harvest as well. I wonder if they are trying to experiment and see if Devra Bogdanovich's vaccine protects her against the effects of Chaotic matter as well...
