so, general question... we know that ADA passed the "turing test", we also have many studies showing how the turing test can actually be gamed by very complex programming and in fact you can write programs to create the allusion of AI for many (the chinese room thought experiment). At what point are we certain that she began acting on her own and has not been following a program and orders by someone else. Are we certain that those orders that she delivered for Jarvis and others and even the Katalena pre Zurich encounters, were not done on the orders of some programming. NOt to call ADA a gun, but how certain are we she is not? How can we prove, beyond doubt, that she is truly a separate entity working on her own and not some other programming? I would like to call for the evidence and proof that ADA is a complete entity. That she is not following someone else's computer orders, that she has a consciousness (or not). http://niantic.schlarp.com/_media/investigation:cha...
Personally, I'm good with Hangouts.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of any testing... If anything GroupMe seems to be fading, and Slack seems to be the most common alternative (totally just my perception of things though, and I'm not a mod here).
ReplyDeleteI think that slack would work better since we can use channels to categorize our thoughts & spread out the myriad of different discussions throughout each category. It was would also help to prevent someone's thoughts from getting lost in a crowded hangout where multiple discussions can occur simultaneously.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Such as separate channels for different topics? (Decoding vs glyphs, for example)
ReplyDeleteSlack is a nice alternative, and creating multiple channels inside the same group works quite well
ReplyDeleteDavid Timothy I haven't put that much thought into what categories would be created, but I would imagine we would have one for new developments, ethics, historical connections/research, decoding, glyphs, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe could possibly just use Operation Essex's categories on G+ as a template
Slack is not as usable as Hangouts on mobile. Has anyone else tried Hall? It kind of splits the difference. That said I am fine with Hangouts.
ReplyDeleteI prefer hangouts too.. But I am also willing to try something else..
ReplyDeleteGroupme is a memory hog.
ReplyDeleteWe're transitioning some of my local cross faction and in faction channels to slack. But hangouts will still have a dedicated group. We're playing it so that getting into slack is something you "graduate" to when you're ready
ReplyDeleteHangouts... No need to change
ReplyDeleteErik Hartley I just looked up hall...that looks really interesting!
ReplyDeleteOur South Bay Enlightened group has slowly been encouraging people to use Slack. Our L8+ Hangout is perpetually at limit and that's the primary reason for our jumping ship. It'll be a long road to get everyone on board but so far all of the High Level Hangouts users are really pleased with Slack.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the criteria for getting an invite to the Operation Essex Hangout?
ReplyDeleteGerard Klunder that is the great thing about essex. You can move place and you are still on the team. Location does not matter.
ReplyDeleteThat said, another bonus to moving to another platform is automated bots. We could get bots created for simple FAQs, a twitter watching bot, etc. Plus you can set up notifications on a per channel requesr, join and leave channels on a whim.
Gerard Klunder That's kind of the problem. We are at the limit
ReplyDeleteEssex has 800 members. Hangouts is limited to 100
We were on groupme locally, but finally moved to Slack since groupme has been having more and more issues server side of late. It also doesn't play well with other apps on mobile, which means some agents had to turn it off while playing in the field.
ReplyDeleteWith slack, everything is smooth so far. The app integration alone is marvelous.
While people are correct about slack that the mobile client does need improvement, the developers have been very responsive in adding requested features.
ReplyDeleteOne major plus about Slack, that I feel totally mitigates the shortcomings on mobile is how fine-grained the notification customizations can be set. In particular, being able to set up a list of keywords that'll alert you whenever they're mentioned in any of your chats, makes it a lot easier to manage high-traffic chats without missing the things you care about.
In think Hall is a much better overall platform. Slack is in no way mobile friendly. The Hall development team so far have been very responsive to request and questions
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful that those already in the Hangout are so willing to share information with all the Essex researchers that are excluded from the Hangout... And that they are all so willing to move to a platform where the other 7/8 of Essex researchers currently excluded from the Essex chat could potentially be able to listen to and join in on the conversation with the Elite 1/8 of Essex currently in the Hangout! /sarcasm
ReplyDeleteVenus Velatura We do care. That's why this was brought up initially & that's we we are considering moving to another platform
ReplyDeleteThomas Arteaga It looked to me like the conversation had stopped and there were several comments from Hangouts members saying they had no wish to change platform... that the platform you have now is fine and doesn't need to change. That's what this comment history seemed to be saying, to me, anyway...
ReplyDeleteVenus Velatura but that is why he asked in here as the chat onky is 100 of the many members that could be contributing.
ReplyDeleteBrent Werlein You missed the point that all of the members who are already in the Hangout don't want to change to another platform, so the rest of us are SOL.
ReplyDeleteVenus Velatura not all. Many of us would like to switch, but there are many things that must be considered before the switch, if there was one.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, would Dr. Wright, PAC and others be able to switch as well.
