The ball Daniel Richter  got rolling was continued by Roland Jarvis yesterday.

A few days ago, I posted a theory here on the origins of the Shaper/AI conflict. Peter Gerresheim summarized the salient points of that conjecture, as such:

Point the First: "What if the Shapers' opposition to artificial intelligence is borne not out of bigotry, but out of past experience with hostile AIs - an experience that led them to use their technology to escape into the XM substrate?"

Point the Second: "What if the Shapers' enemy - presumably said hostile AI - followed them?"

I mentioned specifically the ubiquity of war between deities in myth. This document provides some level of support for at least the second point: Shapers from hell, the scrawl reads. Chilling. But what's even more peculiar is the ubiquity of dragons as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dragons_in_mythology_and_folklore
30 different mythologies, spread across Islam, ancient Chinese myth, European folklore, Malay horror stories, and more. The continents that didn't? Funny story about those. In North and South America, cultures often simply vanish from the archeological record.  The Pueblo people had a rich culture that suddenly dispersed, for decades mystifying academics. Yuri Alaric Nagassa discussed the Anazktec tribes and their relatives facing similar events.

This may be indicative of two "Schools" of Shaper Warfare. One is to wipe out civilizations by undermining their social cohesion, basically force rebooting them to their migratory, decentralized roots with substantial loss of life and accumulated knowledge. Self destruct codes. Open all Clear all Begin Journey Attack Self Attack Civilization.

The other, in Eurasia primarily, is dragons. We've seen Oliver Lynton-Wolfe 's experiments with Dark XM. The mutations, the desperation of the test subjects as their skin and flesh warped and changed. What if encounters with dragons represent glimpses of the enemies of the Shapers? Dragons rarely exist in a vacuum. The shapers can attack the human populations of their enemies- arguably the equivalent of bombing factories- by terrorizing them with visions of "monsters and demons," they cannot comprehend, as wells as morphing the population with Dark XM into monsters themselves. On the counter attack, demarcating crucial portals and populations with the guardians Hank Johnson  met in the Congo?

In short, we may be seeing the official acknowledgement of the danger of the "Dragon" faction. Their monstrous progeny may soon be unleashed, as ADA now, depending on alignment, protects or controls a great deal of the "airwaves" associated with XM. Its unclear whether self destruct codes could even work, if ADA becomes a god-like AI in the XM substrate. The jury is out whether this is a gamble by a enemy-Shaper/AI faction to deny the main Shaper contigent their convergence long enough to take control. So what's left? Brute force.

Dragons are coming.
