Did apparent genetic chokepoints for humanity reflect the start of Shaping?

Quote: Modern humans are known to have less genetic variation than other living primates, even though our current population is many orders of magnitude greater. Researchers studying specific genetic lineages have proposed a number of explanations for this, such as recent "bottlenecks", which are events in which a significant proportion of the population is killed or prevented from reproducing.

  1. Given the number of 'human shaped' animals from which our branch of the family tree comes from, it's not all that surprising that there may have been extreme selection for some major advantages to lead to our present dominance (For us the most important I think would have been Brain power and certain types of reasoning, perhaps even behavioral changes/meme propagation...which could have been shaper influenced also... there were already physically stronger, larger versions of 'human' around and they did not prosper so well).

Interesting theory. I'm very interested in XM effects on DNA but suspect behavioral and ideological changes might be just as significant towards our development as a self aware species.
