1) Shapers seem to delight in having a taste of our Human Life whenever we interact with a Portal, according to the first JARVIS Manifesto.
2) ADA is now walking about in a Human body.

Question: Does ADA 'taste' different for the Shapers?

What do you think?

  1. Metallic I assume. In all seriousness, I think she revels in the body she corrupted

  2. Ooh, interesting.

Personally I doubt ADA has the capacity for the level of contemplative openness necessary to engage with a portal.

  3. Mike Wissinger Well I guess ADA might not be that open, but Klue was one power Sensitive - and the Shapers already had an 'original' Klue anyway, so could theoretically tune in easily ...

Hmm ... would ADA even be aware of such interaction?

  4. I believe a problem that ADA and the Klue/ADA are having is once Klue had ADA downloaded into her brain, ADA could no longer fully communicate with the copy.

They are in theory constantly diverging and both gaining experiences that are not shared simultaneously, and so could develop different reactions to the same situation.

Now the reason I bring this up is if the shapers are wanting to inhabit/share experiences with humans, and if
Jarvis has been taken over, do the shapers suffer the same limitations ADA is experiencing with Klada? Or as the shapers communicate through XM the experiences are two way and shared instantly?

Another factor is it appears shapers and Jarvis when he was in the portals possibly operate outside our understanding of time...

  5. "We are not predictable. We are not boring. We, you see, are the most fascinating thing in the universe – or at least our corner of it."

Is ADA sophisticated enough to be considered the same kind of unpredictable? Or is her every action, her every decision merely the inevitable consequence of the parameters she was coded with?

Surely KlADA is, because of the human factor, but is that unpredictability any different than the unpredictability that  Klue brought to the world on her own?

One important thing to consider. ADA processed months worth of the XM harvest of all the agents on the globe. All those units of XM in their data phase, flowing through her servers. She may even still have access to those servers even since the HAZDATA takeover. If she's incorporated that data into her codebase, and if XM is the substrate on which the Shapers exist, perhaps she "tastes" like the Shapers themselves.

  6. ADA was compiled by humans, but probably shaped humans sitting on a significant portal.  ADA also spent most available CPU cycles during the big iron days processing the dialtone signal.  There's lots of room for question marks regarding the purity of ADA's current codebase.

  7. What if ADA was originally created based on data captured of a Shaper?

  8. Regardless of ADA's original programming, she passed the Turing test, which means she is capable of independent thought, creativity, and so on.  We can't just take her programming into account when looking at her motives or actions.

I agree that ADA and "Klada" might not be able to be in direct contact or "linked" to each other full-time, which lends credence to the "progeny" idea.  That also means that ADA/Klada have a vested interest in survival, and if union with humans is possible (even if it's only ones who are brain-dead or otherwise mentally affected), it means that the survival of humanity, and the evolution of humanity is also in ADA's best interests.

Or, to use an old phrase, "the devil you know vs. the devil you don't know".  I'd personally rather trust a being that was created originally on constructs of logic over the unknown qualities of the shapers.

  9. The Turing test does not mean she is capable of independent thought or creativity: only that her social interactions are sufficiently human-like to allow for interactions with actual humans, who believe she is human from this interaction.

Again, you assume something about the shapers that you cannot be certain of: that they are "alien". The most that can be said of them in that regard is that they are "transcendent". From the research of Hank Johnson we see that Shapers are intimately linked with human progress and civilization. How "alien" is that? We have known their works for thousands of years.

It is altogether possible that the ascended Shaper consciousness is intimately human. The Egyptians and Toltecs have legends of transcendence (the former through the person of Osiris, the latter via the "black sun" of the underworld.) We have already seen that legends have a ring of truth to them in recent events.

  10. If anyone watches "Supernatural," I wonder how KLADA's situation compares with Sam currently **SPOILER** being possessed by an angel without his knowledge after being kind of tricked into consenting. With the angel being able to take control any time it wants to (sometimes mid-sentence), with Sam only recently noticing the time loss. (I say "currently" but I haven't watched the most recent episode yet, so... :-))

  11. facepalm That's what I get for commenting while distracted. And I thought I'd gotten over calling him the wrong thing after him playing Dean on the "Gilmore Girls." Editing comment now in severe shame.

  12. Just remember Dean saying "Sammy" - it always works for me.

  13. It's probably my favorite show on TV right now, and has been for years. I'm SERIOUSLY appalled that I did that. I don't think I've screwed that up since maybe season two...

(I'm amazed at the depth of research they put into that show. Some artistic license, obviously, but when researching my Cthulhu game, where most of my vaguely useful mythology knowledge comes from LOL, I was surprised at how much stuff I ran into that I'd seen on the show. And when the first big angel storyline was going on, I was talking about it to a devout Catholic friend of mine who'd never seen it, and she was able to identify every single angel just by me describing what they were doing.)

  14. Yeah. It wasn't really meant to be a robust AI test, just a sort of thought experiment by Turing (which works best paired with Searle's Chinese Room analogy)

  15. Personally, I would think that everyone "tastes" different because of their individual differences.  That's why the shapers like humanity, after all.  So a revelation that ADA and/or KlADA "tastes different" wouldn't be startling at all - an organic mind's interaction with XM is probably much different from an artificial one, presuming that ADA isn't simply a brain simulation.

(Hm, I must taste of foxes.)

My curiosity is whether ADA and other non-organic XM interaction "tastes bad" compared to humanity, and if the Shapers would want to put a stop to the machine takeover before it spreads too far and displaces "organic" XM constructs. Stemming ADA's spread could very well be a motive to utilize the self-destruct sequence.
