First, let me clarify, I've been following the story since the beginning, so I don't know if this is news or I just missed it, but it strikes home even more after I've been trying to explain the story to friends.
Starting at timecode 6:17, Susanna tells us about OLW's original scanners and how they started to interact with XM.
What she mentions is that XM in the field was INITIALLY Enlightened and OLW's scanners modified the frequency to something he considered more "safe". This both explains the faction split and raises a lot of questions!
First, it means that the Jarvis "Patch" is simply removing the frequency modification and allowing us to use XM in it's "normal" state.
How does this affect our understanding of the factions and the nature of XM itself?
I had always wondered how the Resistance using XM had any less effect than Enlightened, but it makes a bit more sense with this explanation.
However, it still gives no indication as to who's version of XM is better for humanity or what the XM is. How else could OLW's "frequency hack" be affecting the data in XM or the minds influenced by it?

Good catch! If the effects experienced on Epiphany night were created with Lynton-Wolfe's adjusted frequency, I'd say that's strong evidence against Resistance XM being any safer, or any less enlightening.
ReplyDeleteLoyd Hutchings That's a good question, but I assume it's more a graphical representation of "no control, natural state" as envisioned by OLW... Remember, we still can't see these portals ourselves, the colors are dictated by our scanners and coded by OLW and his team.
ReplyDeleteIan Friedrich Very valid point. Could that have been the first time experiencing the clash of frequency shifted XM vs. natural XM? or was it entirely "resistance"? Do we know the "alignment" of the portal at the time of the PC test?
Did my ears deceive me, or did she refer to the NSA once during the video as well?
ReplyDeleteBrian Kurtz or was Epiphany Night, when he was furiously scribbling his XM equations, when he came up with how to resonate the Resistance frequency in the first place? At what point before or after Epiphany Night was the scanner first leaked?
ReplyDeleteIan Friedrich I do believe in terms of timeline that Epiphany Night was Nov. 30th 2012 (check the video) and the scanner was leaked around Nov. 14th-15th 2012, so Scanner came first... Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

ReplyDeleteThat's one of the questions... Another I just thought of too... What influence did ADA have over that frequency both during Epiphany and onwards, even today... Could she change it in Resistance scanners (with no patch) or even overwrite the patch if she chose? Alter the base frequency mod or alter the patched version too? who knows what she's capable of...

ReplyDeleteLoyd Hutchings , I still think that ENL resonators don't change the "frequency" or data in natural XM, but they do serve to amplify it and allow us to extend its range through links and fields.
Ian Friedrich , as Brian Kurtz points out, Epiphany Night occurred after the development of Resonators. However, given the nature and function of what we know now as Power Cubes such as the one deployed on E. Night, I would assume that the XM that was released during that experiment was a massive dose of raw, or perhaps more precisely, "unassembled" XM, like the ambient XM clouds we see and collect with our scanners. So it wouldn't have been OLW's "blue XM"
Also, Michael Bramnik , Zeke Calvin consulted with the NSA early in the project to confirm that they were seeing ordered data in XM:

I agree with Loyd Hutchings it is a struggle to keep a portal aligned even if nobody is attacking it and that is true for both alignments.
ReplyDeleteJoshua Reiniger how much do we know about the nature of that power cube experiment on Epiphany night? Because I have made several attempts to replicate the kind of effects that were observed there, even to the scale of using 40 L8 power cubes in rapid succession on a fully resonated L8 portal, and never experienced anything close to what was described on Epiphany night. If we can determine what other factors were involved in that experiment, that should help us get a lot closer to proveing conclusively the safety or danger of XM exposure.
ReplyDeleteJames Thirteen some good thoughts there. I was also under the impression that a neutral portal was not inherently enlightened, however, Susanna certainly seems to think it is. What her sources are, or how accurate her information is, I don't know. It is certainly well established, though, that natural unresonated XM resonates with the same shaper signal that the enlightened are trying to amplify. What is unclear is the signal to noise ratio of raw XM, which I guess is where random frequencies could come in.
ReplyDeleteI definitely like your interpretation of the scanner as a 3d printer, and if that is true, it would imply that the random items gained from a hack do not have to be so random after all; that perhaps that is an intentional design choice for whatever reason, and a scanner could be modified to produce specific items on demand.
Woohoo. Its the Bio vs the Dirty dirty. Or more specifically Natural vs Synthetic. "Devra, The Green ones are not ours!" I have speculated this for over a year now. I love to see more evidence come to light on the subject. See I believed that the two types of XM were Analog or Natural o Biological or what ever you want to call it, to where Synthetic XM was more digital 1's and 0's.

The portals were all there, but there was so much data to analyze that the scanners couldn't map them all. XM, they said early on, is only detectable by its faint gravitational signature. That would imply that a modern phone lacks the sophisticated sensors or processing power to locate XM on its own, and instead relies on a tracking server, which is also why it fails to detect anything without a data connection. Also, the recent (dramatic) increase in XM concentrations implies to me that a more thorough analysis of satellite data can reveal more XM on a global scale, and the presence or absence of portals at a local scale. We're not creating the portals, as agents; we're discovering them.
ReplyDeleteOkay, thats a point. Since we are talking "frequencies" here we are talking about wavelengths or something like them. For instance, white light contains all the colors of the spectrum. Filters or prism s can separate them to reveal only specific wavelengths of light or all of them. So, in theory, we are not altering anything by plunking down resonators, we are simply filtering what is there...
ReplyDeleteSo OLW adjusts the frequency detected by the scanners of his design to be "resistance" frequency. If we are using a HAM radio analogy, this isnt the same stream but tuning into a different one. You can't change the data coming in on a frequency, you can only swich to a new frequency, which may contain some bleed from a neighboring frequency, but is for all intents and pourposes its own pipe. It is possible that neither Enlightened nor Resistance is a complete message, but two parts of the same message. (Which may contain more than two parts.)

She is spreading alot of disinformation. ... not by lying yet only hindsight will allow us to understand the meanings of her double/triple speak all energy can be used on different frequencies with different results. The scanners we have now can be compared to the analog Car Phones of the early 1980's when will the Corps provide the scanners that work with all types of matter
ReplyDeleteExotic, chaotic, Dark and if you have positive types of matter you have to have the negatives for a minimum of 6 types. Then if you release these to the public, consider how many different combinations/ mutations there could be of these types of matter. If we do not throw off the yoke of NIA, Viseur, Hulong (which I believe arw only the public face) and other factions which will not allow different uses or the exploration of the other types of matter we will be in a struggle amongst our selves for hegemony

His Nomad theory states that portals can open and close over time, and that people are drawn to areas dense in XM. The closing of portals in an area can be a major factor in the death of a city or civilization by causing the populace to leave (probably starting with the artists and scientists), unconsciously seeking a new source of XM.

chris meredith oh poor Susanna. If you say she cannot be trusted then we must not single her out. PA has his agenda and is now off the grid. ADA was inquisitive of manipulation learned it from Hank Johnson. Calvin has lied and double crossed. Devra is sneeky and who knows what side she is on now. Wolfe i never trusted with a ten ft pole, he is to selfish to be trusted. New Jarvis is the king of double speak and he wants devra dead. Ni only cares about status. Carrie was never able to come out and just tell us what was on her mind. We have to sift through memos and decode journals just to speculate on her warning and reason. What is up with dalby? Who does he play for. Stein has been called a con man by his own team. Klue has been flipped more than a quarter. Misty has a shady past we are not aware of. With huberts blackouts and assassin past and weird obsession with devra. 855 is a killer who lost his grasp with his true identity, and is on a permanent upswing of a bipolar shift.

ReplyDeleteLukas Lentz I just reread the page. There is nothing about wanting her dead in there. In fact, Jarvis dissuades Farlowe from going out on a blaze of glory for revenge and tells him to protect Devra instead. "And before you ask, unlike you, I do not seek revenge." See end of Ch 10.
ReplyDeleteLukas Lentz i agree wholeheartedly with you. I singled her out as she is a more public face, that has been seen by all players since they started. By default she has become a "trusted advisior" and people will have a tendency to believe what she says whether it fits their own factional belief or of laziness.

James Thirteen , Lukas Lentz , I think it would be a mistake to assume that those options are mutually exclusive (humans are drawn to portals vs. portals are drawn to humans). We do have evidence through John Doe (Dr. Hollis' patient) that sculptures and art inspired by XM can themselves become portals. So in a major city, you have a density of portals that inspires artists and scientists to create inspired works which emanates more XM which inspires more sensitives, etc., in a positive feedback loop.
ReplyDeleteIn situations where XM dries up and a civilization collapses, something must happen that breaks this loop. Either some sort of XM bubble bursts, or perhaps the portals are tapped dry, or perhaps the sudden closure of portals is a result of the "Self-destruct Glyph Sequence"
Lukas Lentz It will be interesting to see the differences between Farlowe and Jarvis in the coming days. Jarvis indicates that Farlowe was saved for a purpose and right now he seems to see his purpose as protecting Devra. Does this mean the Shapers wanted Devra protected or is Farlowe just trying things that he thinks will thwart them?

James Thirteen I'm not trying to imply the portals have always been there, since before the cities. I'm saying we the players do not create the portals we submit. The art and architecture creates the portals, and they're already there before they show up on the scanners.

ReplyDeleteI also want to throw this out. has anyone else thought about the 12 days of Christmas and what the last day is? Epiphany thw day the wise men found the king and worshipped him. More and more hindsight proves timing of historical events and anamoly (large or small) are not coincidence. How many have we missed because our perspective is too narrow How much longer will we Need to dragged by the nose to see these events, and the big question "Why do there have to be winners and losers?" Why cant we work forbthe greater good? A wise guy once said "A house divided against itself cannot stand" it was said by A Lincoln, however he is not the first one to say it. Interesting arguments.. I am interested in the depths of XM.. As I review the discussion of XM it seems we continue to think in only 3 dimensions.. In quantum mechanics the geometries allow options for energy to exist in multiple possibilities.. As I view and think about it.. We see triangles.. Squares where there are multiple polygons of pyramids and cubes.. Jarvis indicates the shapers are multi-dimensional and yet we continue to research through 3 dimensional eyes while the shapers exist multi-dimensionally.. Even the Ingress icon is only a hexagon.. I believe XM is being radiated through quantum mechanics in ways we haven't even began to perceive through our 3 dimensional eyes.. We perceive XM as existing in 3 states.. Enlightened.. Resistance or neutral where in a grey or quantum state it exists on multi levels and the scanner is only focusing into one.. Resistance or enlighten.. Chaotic or "dark" XM is a name we have given XM to reflect humanity's selfishness or our attempt at rising to power.. XM in a quantum state has the ability to exhibit qualities as yet undiscovered due to the restrictions we have placed on our own perceptions.. It's ability to manifest on levels far exceed our current understanding

As I continue to think about it XM exists everywhere we are only seeing it on a level we can perceive it allowing it to appear in places and disappearing as humanity moves in our physical existence not requiring shaper intervention but humanity causes it to appear in places and disappear through time.. It still exists but it appears to have dispersed
Not all places humans can live contain cities. Some cities are deeply difficult to maintain, like Las Vegas or Phoenix. And many cities once great are now lost.
