Hey folks.

Hey folks. So I spent the last few days hacking together a theory on Shaper biology and XM behavior. Its enclosed in the google doc below. I'd really appreciate thoughts. TLDR:  The Shapers are made of XM, and are an emergent result of the high concentrations of XM in higher dimensional space. They exist in six string dimensions “above” 4D space. XM exists in this space, and only appears as it briefly intersects the axes of 4D. The “patterns” of humans exist in the 6D realm too, discrete from shapers. Jarvis is a hybrid of his human pattern and the shaper mind collective. XM signals are both telecommunications from shapers and “visual” data of the Shapers- perhaps even fragments of them. Green data may be lexical data. White XM may be lexical noise. Blue is quieter garbled noise, to the point of destructive interference. Shapers can be damaged.  Shapers are not omniscient or omnipotent. No theories on Chaotic Matter yet.
Remaining questions include: How does Chaotic Matter fit into this model? Does it invalidate it?
If Shapers are XM, are all instances of XM shaper "shards"?
Can we detect high and low energy XM?
Does XM have conservation of energy?
How does energy in the shaper dimensions work?
Do shapers experience time? If so, why don't they decay? Are they really immortal, or is Jarvis BSing us?
If they do not decay, what makes low-energy XM structures so durable?
Hyperthreading?
Is dismissing space magic a good idea? Was what Jarvis said about Clarke's third law true?

  1. Big thanks to Paul Gettle , who got me thinking with the phrase, "Are the Shapers wielding this force, or are they merely an emergent property of that force?"

  2. Some excellent theory work here. This is a lot to digest before my morning caffeine, but I'm glad to have help sparked this line of inquiry.

One thing that struck me though is the part where you talk about the Shapers' ability to analyse in perfect detail normal matter that is near green portals. While this does fit with your later conjecture about green being the "color" of XM that is conducive to data transfer, and blue being a "color" of XM that has somehow been rendered unfit for passing information, I'd like to point out that nowhere in Jarvis's descriptions of the process are blue and green ever mentioned. Only that Shapers connect with our word in "XM-saturated areas" and that you were likely to have been patterned if you've "spent your time near portals". It's never specified that the portals must be green or even that the portal needs to be resonated.

Furthermore, the scanner tech itself is the result of efforts made by Dr. Oliver Lynton-Wolfe while under heavy inspiration from the Shapers, and by default, the resonators deployed by the scanner app will make blue portals. It wasn't until the Jarvis Entity made the offer to patch the code of leaked scanner apps and that offer was accepted, that the ability to resonate a portal green came about. If the Shapers wanted to influence the development of the Scanner app to better facilitate contact between their dimensions and ours, why wouldn't they have inspired OLW to use the best color for that, right from the start? At that nascent stage of XM research, they wouldn't have known the implications of color.

Personally, I'm not convinced that there is a difference in the colors when it comes to spreading the influence of the Shapers, but I can understand why so many would like to think so. One of the first things we're told in agent training is that blue control fields protect minds against the Shaper ingression, and it would be comforting to some if that were actually true and not just propaganda drummed up by the NIA for whatever reason.

As for the remaining questions you've listed, of particular interest to me is how these XM dimensions relate to the dimension of Time.  We've seen evidence of XM's influence seeming to violate causality in numerous ways.

  3. Thanks for the input! My reasoning for assuming there is some manner of difference based on color is mostly functional: at very least, blue portals can prevent anomalies from proceeding according to plan. Jarvis was visibly furious at the loss of Washington DC. Its not a large stretch to believe his plan was at least tolerated by the Shapers, and the plans' setbacks likely didn't satisfy them either. While I don't have much evidence to suggest white portals don't serve a shaper agenda, but given the successes the Resistance have enjoyed, blue portals at least...complicate matters.

I'm also worried about to the extent to which Shapers can experience time. If they have a measure of limited foresight... That could raise serious concerns about causality, and whether the shapers have interfered after seeing an altered "future", that interfered with whatever their end game is. If so, we might know why civilization destruction became necessary....

  4. Looking at this much later, what if your right about the signal to noise comparison, but wrong about the cause. Maybe chaotic matter is the noise, and the colors as just that - colors, frequencies. Maybe the "Shapers" (or maybe just Roland Jarvis) and as well tuned in to the blue.
