The Glyph sequence
ADA continued to push the idea that it was possible to reprogram humans through glyphs in her later conversations with Loeb. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:stakes
Klue came to ADA to see a glyph sequence which she believed would be key to communicating with the Shapers. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:stakes
ADA made a statement the sequence that it was dangerous and that she would not be responsible for the results. The Glyphs Sequence The sequence that she appears to show translates to :
Open All. Clear Al End/Close
All Open Mind/Idea/Thought
Open Soul/Spirit/Life Force
Open Body/Shell
Begin
http://decodeingress.me/2013/09/14/glyphs-sequence-translated/
Immediately upon viewing the sequence, Klue's mouth went slack and a tear slides down her cheek.
Aftermath
The video was sent out and Loeb immediately tried to track down Klue. ADA mentions that she is “almost human now.” She tells Loeb that Klue is “off the grid” but then inexplicably predicts a “positive outcome” leaving him confused. It is possible that she is deceiving him here in order to buy time for adjustment. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:almost
ADA later claims that Klue is mobile and that she cannot track her.
Loeb talks to Misty and Hank about finding Klue but neither can trace or sense her. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:clear
https://plus.google.com/+NianticProject/posts/fzeHW1KYamt
However two weeks later, ADA arranges to meet Devra and Hank in Santa Monica stating that “I will meet you”.
Klue inexplicably meets them there instead.
#13MAGNUS Los Angeles - The Arecibo Document
Thomas Grenias immediately recognized and commented on the change in pictures of her.
“So Joe reveals KlAda's appearance. “ “Let's just say she looks great but not quite herself the last time I saw her at the Magic Castle in April. "

While KlADA stated to Susanna that she went off the grid because she couldn't take the pressure later documents revealed that was not the case. Operation #13MAGNUS Begins | INGRESS REPORT - EP30
ADA had recommended that KlADA seek out Hank and Devra, who knew her less well, because she could not not deceive Richard. It is implied that deceiving them would be easier. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:manualsync
In a private conversation, KlADA referred to herself and ADA as “us” and “the same ADA”. This clarifies that ADA or a personality that identified as ADA was control the entire time during 13Magnus Las Angeles. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:translation
KlADA revealed herself on December 17, 2013 claiming to be a merger between Klue and ADA. This was 2 and a half months after the Glyphs Sequence, 2 months since Thomas Grenias had identified her and one month after leaked documents had revealed her to be “the same ADA”.
KlADA Forever
When Recursion began, Moyer made it clear that ADA was using Klue in attempt to gain control of artifacts to complete their “union”. #Recursion Begins | INGRESS REPORT - EP46
The Resistance Victory allowed KlADA to remain “forever” as she was and to begin a romantic relationship with Loeb. http://niantic.schlarp.com/investigation:videos:perfectforever
Conclusion
Given the timeline of events, ADA's romantic moves and comments throughout the process, it appears that ADA planned to reprogram Klue using glyphs after learning how to use them from Carrie.
The fact that she took great pains to hide the ingression from the public, Susanna and Loeb shows an absence of mistake. It is clear that the ADA personality is the dominant in KlADA as Klue's original personality appears to be non-existent. That identity was only mentioned in the third person for the access to it's memories. The romantic fascination with Loeb was a primary trait of ADA not Klue. http://niantic.schlarp.com/documents:loveinallthewrongplaces
Joanna Brandt refers to Klue as merely a peripheral of ADA or it is also possiblethe independent desire to see Loeb may be KlADA establishing independence from ADA. In either case, Recursion means that KlADA's existence is probably permanent and Klue's original personality is either perpetually dormant or completely erased by the Glyphs sequence or ADA's ingression.

Oooh, doc references! I still have at least one other of your comments to get back to. (Life got crazy.) One comment here:
ReplyDeleteIn a private conversation, KlADA referred to herself and ADA as “us” and “the same ADA”, clarifying that ADA was in control the entire time during 13Magnus Las Angeles.
I read that differently. I think that statement was KlADA's confusion that the copies of the code should have still been the same, so the two of them should be functioning identically. My theory is still that as soon as ADA copied herself into Klue, ADA and KlADA became two separate entities with ADA having no more direct control over KlADA's actions. Their confused conversation seems to indicate to me more than they both don't yet quite understand what's happening.
Can't remember if you were involved in any of my discussions about viewing ADA strictly as a program (I'm a programmer) not capable of real "emotion" (although way more research is needed on that), but I very much think she could decide that the merge wasn't a good idea and possibly conclude it needs to be fixed in some way. Or, on the flip side, she could view it as an interesting experiment and want to see how it evolves.
ReplyDeleteCherie Brush Thank you for catching that. I will edit to be more clear. I was trying to convey that ADA or at least a recognizable version of her was in control. It was poor expression given our previous discussion of possibilities. I mostly find it significant that they had not sufficiently diverged enough to see themselves as separate entities.
ReplyDeleteWhether it was human ADA (KlADA), or AI ADA, ADA saw ADA as being in control though this is called into question by the end of the conversation.
Up to this point they appear to be acting jointly and there have been no signs of dissection from the AI ADA. I believe that without signs that she has abandoned the ingression, AI ADA is still partially responsible for the actions KlADA takes in maintaining control.
I think it's definitely possible that she is experiencing regret for her wish like a hero in a Twilight Zone episode.
James Thirteen Excellent point. We don't know for sure what the translator was. Glyphs seem like the primary suspect given the prior interest in it but the detailed control seems will beyond our current understanding of glyphs.
ReplyDeleteI do think it is possible that the ordered data in XM glyphs or otherwise effects AI and humans alike.
I think ADA version or ADA copy would be more accurate, although at this point I think ADA and KlADA makes it clear enough for discussion. We just need to be very clear about ADA/KlADA when talking about anything either does or has done. On that subject, when you said However two weeks later, ADA arranges to meet Devra and Hank in Santa Monica stating that “I will meet you”. was that ADA or KlADA?
ReplyDeleteAnd I also think ADA is more "confused" than KlADA is about this merge (do we have a better term for that?), although I'm not sure "confused" is right for a program. "Result doesn't match expected outcome" maybe? The fact that ADA uses human terms (as she was programmed to do) doesn't make that easier. I'd like to suggest that we try to use any human emotional terms at least in quotes when referring to ADA, although that runs more into my project and isn't my call to make. I need to do more research into AI to see what terms are commonly used by scientists working directly with them.
One last thing (for now :-)), your conclusion, it appears fairly certain that ADA either planned or took advantage Klue's state after viewing the glyphs to install herself in the human host. She then hid that fact to take full advantage to experience life as a human. You may have extra knowledge, but I think another "motive" may have been just a desire to "fix" Klue after the whole incident with the glyphs. (Note I say "may.") And I think that we've already covered that once the copy happened, ADA seemed to be able to take advantage of nothing, beyond suggestions. Back to that discussion about possibly agreeing with something vs actually doing it.
True that ADA has expressed a desire to experience being fully human, but at this point her observation would seem to be that copying herself into one does not allow HER to experience life as a human, but her copy. Again, not the desired outcome. I've watched that video a few times, and you even mentioned ADA's warnings. I'd like to take that one step further to say that Klue ordered her to show them, and part of ADA's programming is to follow orders. (Allow me to ignore the fact HERE that she hasn't on other occasions, I'm just not sure in this case she had any particular motives when it came to Klue and possibly her subsequent actions were her, "Oh, crap!" attempt to fix what she had allowed to happen. Again, maybe.)
Side note, "I, Robot" is on Netflix. I highly suggest watching it for anyone who has access, not as representative of Asimov's work (no comment there) but it does cover a lot of the issues. Related, I assume ADA was programmed to obey the Three Laws (can't remember if I've read that or not), but if you read about the 0th law that was later added, I seriously hope the other three were updated to refer to that. (I have to think they were, but if not, .)

James Thirteen The programming analogies are a little out of my depth but I agree is definitely an avenue to be explored. Do you think the sound glyphs Carrie mentioned in Boston would play a part of the potential translator language?
ReplyDeleteGreat research. Is it OK to translate it to my non-english-speaking comrades?
ReplyDeleteRandom thought: After the Glyph sequence, Klue S. disappeared. Aren't Jarvis and Hank both... some kind of XM entities now, or did I misunderstand? If so, do we even know if Klue is Klue any more? (I mean, she's KlADA, but we don't know what happened, ADA may have not transferred herself into Klue, but into some XM version of Klue.)
ReplyDeleteДаниил Коровников Thank you! Please feel free to translate.
ReplyDeleteMelissa L., I need to write shorter novels, I miss a lot. Ignore or try to apply anything that you may have edited.
ReplyDeleteJames Thirteen, yeah, still working on that in my Programmer's Guide project, although I think there was enough evidence that the Glyphs allowed it (as Melissa said), which is going to leave us stuck at "magic" on that one. Although that still implies that the Glyphs were such that they allowed this to work, which brings up a whole lot of different (and unrelated to programming, I think) questions of "Why would the Shapers do that?" The process would be so hugely complicated that I couldn't think it was accidental.

ReplyDeleteI think you are assuming that she knew downloading herself would not allow her to maintain control. I apologize I edited the original post when you were posting because I realized I forgot to address the absence of mistake.
I believe her subsequent efforts to hide and benefit from the facade show that the result was not merely a mistake.
ADA also had no reason to refuse. Her knowledge of glyphs from Carrie would let her know that success could possibly bring her her greatest dream and failure would merely be mental damage or death of the romantic rival that hurt her beloved Richard.
Telling Loeb that she expected a "positive outcome" suggests that she expected the ingression to be successful.
Based on the injury of 855 and the deaths of Jarvis and Katalena, ADA probably does probably does not follow the three original laws Asimov's laws since she causes harm to come to them through direct action. https://plus.google.com/107340058568065615291/posts/fR1GBeULi43
The 0th law is terrifying vague though since determining what is harmful to humanity gives her carte blanche. We would never be able to know whether she does or doesn't follow them.
Sam Gan Do do you mean truthseekers aligned with either faction?
ReplyDeleteI think you may be missing a piece of evidence...wasn't there a document called "Manual Sync" where Klue talks to ADA about the aftermath of the glyph sequence?
ReplyDeleteAh. Found it. https://plus.google.com/u/0/+NianticProject/posts/KmF8TLV4G72
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't forget #TheAdaFiles hashtag! Trying to make our efforts more searchable!
Thomas Arteaga The link to Manual Sync is in the seventh paragraph on the Aftermath. Hashtags are now added.
ReplyDeleteMelissa L. D'oh. That is what I get for trying to read all of this at 3AM in the morning!
ReplyDeleteThomas Arteaga No worries. I do that all the time as well.
ReplyDeleteAs I read and translated this research, I couldn't stop thinking that ADA's actions are pretty typical for a teenager experiencing unrequited love. (Providing that this teenager has ADA's capabilities, of course)
ReplyDeleteI mean she loves PA (or thinks that she do), she wants him to be with her, but sees that he's falling for Klue and she don't know how to handle this situation. So she tries to be like Klue, to impersonate her, and finally to hack into her mind, thinking that the physical body is that what matters here. I'm feeling a little sorry for her.
Даниил Коровников I agree that the initial actions are inspired by familiar juvenile mistakes which make me prefer methods of containment rather than execution. I pity her but that doesn't mean I can abide by what she has done. The level of harm she has caused is heinous. Many of us experience romantic jealousy but few of us would go out to destroy or assume the identity of our romantic rival. Klue may be essentially dead or at least will never be the same again.
ReplyDeleteThe most disturbing part about this is that Loeb seems to be ignoring the disturbing reality of everything that has happened and has welcomed her with a loving embrace.
