Before I sleep my mind drifts to the name Morpheus, that sits on top of the files both Melissa Wikkedimp and I have gotten.... What does this name mean?

Morpheus is the name of a Greek god of Dreams. He was the leader of his brothers and had the power to appear in the dreams of humans. Through these dreams he sent messages to humans about their future. He was able to mimic any human form at will in these dreams, something his brothers could not do... This may be why he would oversee the dreams of heroes and kings and influence the dreams of Gods....

His uncle is also the god of Death, Thanatos...

Considering that H. Richard Loeb keeps titling his posts under the tag 'passage to Osiris' , who is also another god of the Dead and death but an Egyptian one, I found that piece of Morpheus's family tree interesting....

  1. In Wikipedia Japanese version, I found the following description.
    > Morpheus originates from the Greek word "morphe", which means "someone who shapes".

LEMURA′LIA or LEMU′RIA, is a festival for the souls of the departed, which was celebrated at Rome every year in the month of May.
It was said to have been instituted by Romulus to appease the spirit of Remus whom he had slain (Ovid. Fast. V.473, &c.), and to have been called originally Remuria . It was celebrated at night and in silence, and during three alternate days, that is, on the 9th, 11th, and 13th of May.

    Aphrilis

In the early days of Rome, this was considered the most fruitful month of the year.
April had therefore been consecrated to Venus, and called - hence - Aphrilis, from a Greek word meaning sea foam ( ἀϕρός ), since, according to the myth, Aphrodite was born right from the foam of the sea.
