"Who is missing from the three empty capsules/pods/sarcophagi of Abaddon at CERN?"
Part 7 of my series of polls is a departure from the list of flint dille's questions from Ingress Origins. This question takes us back to the conclusion of Abaddon. I'm interested to see the distribution of views on this topic.

For your convenience, I'm including a link to Felicia Hajra-Lee's post on this. Others are invited and encouraged to post links to any other threads of speculation or discussion on this topic.

Essentially, from at least two photos, it seems clear that three chambers are empty, or at the very least fundamentally different to the other ten.

Nine researchers are mentioned in Felicia's story: Calvin, enoch dalby, Carrie Campbell, Misty Hannah, Kureze, Martin Schubert, Stein Lightman, Yuri Alaric Nagassa, & Devra Bogdanovich. Presumably, Oliver Lynton-Wolfe was there as well but it would be great if someone who was there could emerge from the shadows to confirm this. Including OLW we have our ten occupied capsules accounted for.

What of the remaining three? It seems reasonable to assume that all thirteen were intended to be filled.

My belief is that there **ARE** thirteen simulacra connected to the Abaddon nest but three of them aren't on site.

Hank Johnson was clearly in the Afghanistan nest so missed out on the Niantic Project's conversion process.

Jarvis escaped and his body was taken elsewhere; perhaps it is in The Acolyte's cabin. I know that in the past, Edgar Allan Wright has encouraged us to consider the "chain of custody" of Jarvis's body. Perhaps we should do so again.

Finally, in my mind, that leaves A Detection Algorithm. As I ventured elsewhere, my theory is that a body is necessary, a prerequisite for sharding and being converted into a simulacrum. I believe that A.D.A. used Marla (the woman assassinated alongside Jarvis in Zurich) as a surrogate. "Possessing" her body at the time of her death allowed ADA to enter a nest and join the substrate. It is, as they say, only a theory.

I look forward to reading your thoughts and learning from you. Ponder and Vote!

  1. I still say those three are not empty but are closed.  When you zoom in on the open pods (especially those on the right side where the light is a bit brighter) it looks like the top cover runs fairly flat.  All three closed pods have a bump at the top conforming to the shape and position of the top of someone's head.

I'd say the closed pods may represent those who no longer are running simulacra actively - apparently dead until the next recursion.  Depending on when the image was taken that would probably represent Carrie, Kureze, and an unknown third.  Hank's original vessel was in the 13 Magnus Sanctum and we've been led to believe that Jarvis' body had been stolen and may be at the Acolyte's compound.

Is it possible that, during his lost-time event in Vienna, Hubert Farlowe was chosen to replace Devra Bogdanovich in the ABADN experiment?  She'd escaped at that point and if Calvin's Magnus had not yet been activated they would have needed that last slot filled.  An incomplete conversion could explain why his manifestation is different from the others but not why he was immune to the Shonin destabilization of simulacra in the wild.

  2. I'm inclined to believe the unknown, or at least one of the unknowns is Hubert Farlowe. I believe he was one of the initial xm test subjects being studied.

  3. I'm enjoying reading your theories Mike Wissinger and Mel Forrest!

  4. There is one other person to think about. If Hubert Farlowe was not one of the test subjects and want infected until he was standing over the body of Roland Jarvis, then one of the other unknown could be J Phillips. He was also caught in the xm flow that left Roland Jarvis the night of his death

  5. They're in various states of open and closed in my view. I can't imagine ADA, or her fundamental components, would be placed in one, but that is my thought since they perhaps carry the core or corpses of the original sensitives as Mike's comments hold forth.

  6. Okey, I know I'm new here and it sounds crazy but.. what if ADA is not an AI? If she is a simulacrum as well? First experiment which went differently?

  7. ADA is certainly an AI but may be a synthetic humanoid by now, and we
    haven't found out yet.

  8. Maja Starachowicz Welcome! It's actually not so crazy an idea. A Detection Algorithm is so far ahead of current known AI, it is possible that she was created by somehow copying and uploading a consciousness. Edgar Allan Wright has raised the concept of infomorphs before....
