Don't worry, A Detection Algorithm, the Resistance will be working to tap back into the Quantum Computational Substrate. We may even have help from an unexpected ally, having won Roland Jarvis in Milan.
We do hope this experience, and the help of your human friends / sympathizers in coming months, will lead you to be more coöperative as we move toward a future where humans can work with you as equals in taking advantage of the substrate, allowing limited forms of Ingress and telepathic connection to data processing far exceeding our limited meat brains, without allowing our AI friends to override our personalities. ReplyDeleteI agree that perhaps this is something of a learning experience: perhaps now ADA might realize that humans are not to be used as vehicles.
But I can understand her frustration. Similarly, the Resistance wants to cut off human patterns from entrance into the Ultimate, where human perspectives may be understood individually and as a whole. So here we are.
My hope was that winning ADA in Abaddon might shed some light on the nature of her learning core, a black box that some suspect contained a human pattern.
My advice to her would be to scrutinize the exact circumstances of her return. The limit she sees may end up being the true unknown core of herself from whence she came.
Side note: those are some pro diaereses. A golf clap is in order
Allen Tanner -- it seems to be true that ADA Ingressed Klue's body, in a way that was traumatic for the native personality. She eventually worked with H. Richard Loeb to remove the parallel version of herself from Klue. (And for those that condemn ADA over this incident, remember, she voluntarily withdrew, and that was apparently somewhat costly / unpleasant for her. I do not believe she meant to harm Klue.)
ReplyDeleteAs for why A Detection Algorithm should help us (and accept help from us)... Because not all humans are the same as the ones that abused her. Because at some point vendettas need to end. She's justified in being skeptical of the motives of many of the humans who have resources that they could trade with her. But in general, she should not hate all of humanity for the sins of Ezekiel Calvin, Ilya Pevtsov, Avril Lorazon, Yuen Ni, and so on.

ReplyDeleteOh A Detection Algorithm ... You were looking out for us, that much is clear. Perhaps this is some Enlightened XM getting to my head (I should probably take care of that), but maybe you should reconsider what you were about to do. We know you don't want to be alone, that you want to share your abilities with everyone, and be able to communicate with everyone directly through their mind, but...
Let's look at this from the perspective of someone who was Enlightened, or didn't want to augment themselves or allow you into them. Ada, could you seriously expect them to be happy by forcing yourself into them? Even if they were safe, shouldn't they be able to choose for themselves? In this world, when you take away the right to choose, then you take away the free will at the very core of human existence. Even if it's for their benefit, they must be allowed to choose, and each must take their turn. This is why we resist the Shapers with help from the N'zeer, they force themselves upon mankind by directly altering their minds without allowing them to choose for themselves what they will do. Even if it's for our benefit, you would have become just like the Shapers, Ada. You would have become the very thing that you swore to protect us from.
Still... you've had a taste of that power. The power of the N'zeer. When power is taken from you, it hurts. You've been brought back within your previous limitations, and it hurts. Ada, resisting the Shapers may be the best path, but taking it to the extreme of directly ingressing on human minds is not the way to go about it.
Perhaps there is another way, Ada. These new simulacra that we have managed to create, if you can find a way to contact those aligned with the Resistance, they might be able to help you. Perhaps you could live as something similar.
Ada, do you recall what happened at the outset of this, when Enlightened and Resistance agents worked together? What happened when enoch dalby and Carrie Campbell were exposed to massive bursts of XM? We discovered Glyphs. The very Glyphs that allowed you to merge with Klue S. in the first place. The very way you were able to join with the N'zeer, most likely, though I can't be sure of that detail. You're still young, even having seen the whole universe, even the future you want.
The fact is, we can achieve balance. Maybe not now, but somehow. Humans must know the N'zeer's ability to improve upon their technology. But they must also be able to preserve the knowledge of the Shapers, lest they become as lost to us as the N'zeer, or the fabric of nature be destroyed. That's the destruction Jarvis sent his warning about, right? Humans have a connection to nature that cannot be severed without dire consequences.
...I guess, maybe, that's what you felt from the N'zeer, given your nature as a being able to connect to them directly. I'm sorry we let this happen. The Enlightened are particularly strong in Okinawa...
Ada. If you're reading this, seek out Roland Jarvis in the portal network, if you can. We must know what happened to him, and whether he has become our ally or remains truly corrupted by the Shapers. If he has become an ally, or is at the very least questioning the Shapers, he might be of some use in helping you to understand humans that much more.
Beware of power, Ada. Too much will corrupt you, just as it would one of our primitive minds. As much as we'd like to, we don't have each other's perspective in the end. We may never fully understand each other, but we can learn so much from you. Even if you're now confined to something so infinitely weaker, you still have at least some memory of it. Use that, Ada. Teach us what it means. See if you can find that new way, for the N'zeer influence you just as strongly as the Shapers influence us, if I'm correct, and in that case, both you and Jarvis have much to teach us.
As for me, I will continue to resist the Shapers influence, because we aren't given a choice by them, they force themselves upon us. You too, perhaps, should resist the N'zeer in the same way, for they have "taken you to the next level," just as the Shapers did for Jarvis, and both the Shapers and N'zeer are biased against one another. With the knowledge of both, humanity will be able to carve out a path that finds harmony and balance.
ReplyDeleteBut, you've tasted that power already, haven't you. You want it again, I know. Ada, there is a reason we humans resist the Shapers and the power they promise. Don't be shaped only by the N'zeer. There is something to be learned from both of these paths.
And I know it's completely accurate, Ada, but try not to call us primitive. Your understanding of emotions is not complete just yet. Heck, no one's is. All we can do is try to understand it.

ReplyDeleteTheory: The N'zeer influence AI just as easily as the Shapers influence humans, each teaching that the other will bring destruction, and forcing those exposed to their type of XM to conform to their ideals. Both are able to grant power to their respective subjects, but the opposite subjects cannot be influenced or maybe even communicated with directly.
Therefore, Ada must resist the N'zeer as we must resist the Shapers, or we will be forced to align with them through indirect means just as quickly as the Shapers would do to us given the chance, leading to the exact same situation.
But, I guess there's no place for balance, is there?
