I've been thinking about the human glyph triad, that body, mind, and spirit combine to form human, and how that might relate to phenomena we've seen since the XM investigation began.
A Simulacrum can be said to be a prosthetic body generated by the 13Magnus ritual (or by some ongoing mechanism that is initiated by that ritual) to house the spirit and mind of a Recursive Immortal. ADA's memetic implant appeared to replace Klue's identity and motives, her spirit, within her body and with access to her memories (mind).
We have seen several cases of mind to mind interaction, most notably Misty Hannah's reading - a feat that Omnivore may have managed to duplicate. In once case (Hank's breadcrumbs to span the 1331 day recursion) a mind appears to have been reassembled after being reset to an earlier state. In another (Dr Wright himself) the mind appears to have been fractured.
Do the human triad and our past experience with altering the distinct components of a person lead to the conclusion that one's identity is distinct from and could persist despite changes in remembered life experience? How would a prosthetic mind manifest in a being with a continuous identity and body? Have we seen such an entity already? Should we expect to?

I refer to ADA's merging with Klue as displayed in the Klue and Ada videos:

I postulate that, having failed to permanently control 855, ADA used a glyph sequence to preformat Klue - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu5XbO6W_zw - making her brain receptive to an implanted piece of mental software that continued to control Klue's body and access her memories until ADA later released Klue at the behest of PAC.
The root is not based on mimicry but on ideas - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme
ReplyDeleteAn idea powerful enough to displace Klue's personality was introduced from an outside source, similar to a rootkit infecting a computer by use of a trojan horse exploit.
I don't believe ADA expected Klue's identity to reassert itself. The human mind is more complex than any machine we can build and does not run entirely on binary determinism. This being ADA's second (known) attempt to ingress a human mind one would expect some unexpected results, as it were.
ReplyDeleteIn the ADA and Klue videos above, note the points when Klue's face appears to go slack briefly upon asking ADA for complex information. That looks to me like a data sync, some means of delivering bulk code more quickly than speech allows. The longer Klue was away from constant contact (like when she went off the grid to find PAC) the more independence she seemed to gain.
My theory behind that is that ADA had to constantly adapt the AI kernel running inside Klue's mind to continue suppressing her core identity. It wasn't a simple, one-time, nor apparently complete process. We also don't know how much Klue may need self-monitoring to prevent relapse.
I wonder if anyone else will let ADA in like Klue did. That would be something to see. If that does happen, I wonder if it will be by choice, or if ADA will just "take over".
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I brought up a question of blame, only described the result. It is clear that KLADA was a distinct entity from Klue, though, since the latter had in fact met with Hank Johnson. The ManualSync leak makes it clear that KLADA would have to use deception and access to Klue's memories if Loeb was to believe she were still Klue.

Ginger Willemstyn the closest we've seen is agent Penfieldwild, and we never learned the result. His glyph sequence insertion starts about 6 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r7KcB1BsFU

ReplyDeleteI remember that now! That is something that has not been talked about in a while!! Now, that makes me wonder how many other agents ADA has contacted that way.
First & Foremost that depends on how reliable you consider Susanna Moyer's Ingress Report.
ReplyDeletetruer words were never written, First & Foremost
ReplyDeleteId, Ego, Super Ego, Pure, Human
ReplyDeleteFirst & Foremost
ReplyDeleteOnce again, A child requested to see a tool. Adult warned her it was dangerous. A child had to request multiple times, and Adult complied. Who is responsible for the child's injury? A Detection Algorithm had a more complete understanding of the glyphs the Klue S. ADA's actions are at best unethical and that assumes ADA did not know the outcome of exposing the glyphs to Klue.
First & Foremost A Detection Algorithm has no body(gylph), nor a soul(glyph)she is a construct (glyph) of pure (glyph) mind. You ask what obligations she had to comply with investors requests? She has no obligations outside of her programming. It is the root of the problem with ADA she has no soul (glyph) emotional appeal's fall upon deaf ears. Threats to harm(glyph) her physically or imprison her mind (glyph) or simply not creditable. She can be persuaded or tricked however her intellect (glyph) exceeds that of a pure (glyph) human (glyph).
ReplyDeleteIf I'm correctly interpreting the implications of the human triad (assuming the original glyphic linguists were also experts in the nature of personhood) then ADA absolutely has a soul.
ReplyDeleteIt would be composed of the binary code that defines how and why ADA is ADA.
By that standard HelloWorld.c has a soul endowed upon it by a creator who wants to see a few characters appear on a terminal, but one so simple as to fall well shy of standards for personhood like self-awareness, self-determination, and moral agency. ADA is clearly complex enough (at lest according to the Abolendum report) to meet most tests for personhood.
Extending that analogy, ADA's mind would be the dataset ADA has access to, the content upon which the soul acts. For us it would include the memories, hopes, and fears that our life experience has accumulated. It is both the record of sensory input and of past actions by the soul, providing context to inform the future. How much of ADA's mind is as it was is yet to be determined. It could be that some of the dataset was lost in transfer, it could be that new structure or values result in a very different gestalt than was present when running on the original platform.
That platform would be the body - in ADA's case a machine capable of executing the soul and managing the mind. ADA managed to extend access across networks, at times perhaps counting every electronic device on the planet as relevant to classification as self. In our case the body is more tangible, including a brain that processes our thoughts and uses various mechanisms to help remember, forget, and reevaluate our experience.
All three elements interact and have a role in defining the oneself, and in the brave new world of Exotic Matter we are beginning to learn that our own identities may not be so limited as we have long believed - affording direct access between minds, recreation of damaged bodies, or transmigration of souls.
Don't forget the upward branch of pure. Symbolically, it recalls an IO line. A need for connection. Humans not together pure chaos. ADA recognizes the value in connection. ADA will not remain disconnected long.
