Notice to all Essex investigators:

Notice to all Essex investigators:

Operation: Essex is a vessel of discovery of the unknown. As we navigate the mysteries of the Niantic Project and Ingress, many paths and options lie before us. We welcome all who seek the truth in these matters. We all have something to offer and having contrasting viewpoints helps us dig deeper. As we contribute to this community, the following guidelines will maintain the integrity of Essex.

1. An investigation can produce strong opinions, so please don't take disagreements personally. If you do disagree with the logic of a fellow investigator, do so respectfully.

2. Be modest in your line of thinking. There isn't always a right or wrong way to interpret things. Be open minded to all facts, opinions, ideas, stories, data, and information presented to you. You're an investigator determining your own conclusions, not an instigator, accusing fellow agents.

3. Good ideas are not always supported. The best way to gain support is by backing a statement with compelling evidence and research. The most respected investigators consistently present their thoughts in this way.

4. Support this community by being a part of it. If you feel that some topic doesn't get the attention it deserves, build a compelling reason why it should. If you decide to make your own community instead, you have every right to do so, but posts that direct attention to that community undermine our focus and will be removed.

5. Our founder, Edgar Allan Wright, sets a good example in not abusing his authority over this community. The moderators also avoid blocking or removing posts without a clearly expressed reason. With those examples in mind, taking a position of telling Essex what to do, even if well-intended, is frowned upon.

Thank you for your consideration of these guidelines. Please share your thoughts and suggestions, and by all means, keep up the good work.

  1. Thank you for your input Hazel Vizion. I have edited the original post, point number 2, to reflect your insightful wording.

  2. garseeya 512 The main purpose of this post is to clearly establish a code of ethics for investigators, which is something that is clearly needed, as you point out. Unfortunately, I had to remove your comment because it adds nothing to this post and is insulting to many sincere investigators. We're not denying that some investigators are high minded and extremely vocal. Thank you for reminding us of what we don't want.

  3. J.J. Ramirez you just reminded all of those who's opinions matter most, that because you disagree with one's opinion, you will remove it as you have my opinion -from the discussion.

How is that something that Operation Essex WANTS? How Does OE, want Bias? i can't see see that from the majority.

How did I remind OE of what you don't want? By disagreeing with your views, and opposing your notion that all is equal in OE. Don't spin this into something other than a difference of opinion that you simply don't agree with and have censored. CC syko lilith

  4. garseeya 512 There's nothing wrong with any of your concerns. Your last comment simply broke the community guidelines (see point 1). From the moderators point of view, it's as simple as that. I personally don't have an agenda for Essex, I'm just doing my job. I don't have any favorites and will remove anyone's posts that break the guidelines. If I don't remove an offensive post, it's because I haven't read it. Mention me in the post and I'll review it ASAP.

Needless to say, it is unfortunate that we have some passionate investigators that sound condescending. These guidelines are designed to help Essex improve on that.

  5. Lost at sea, with a magnet hidden under the compass. How unfortunate...

  6. There should be plenty of wind to move that ship.
