Where Did The Niantic Project Members Go?

Where Did The Niantic Project Members Go?

When I was younger, I entertained myself by reading tons of books. One such series was called the Power of Five by Anthony Horowitz. One important detail from said series struck me out as relevant to what has occurred to the Niantic Project researchers: the concept of the Doorways.

"The Doorways are a series of 25 doorways built all around the world for the Gatekeepers to use."

"The Doors do not lead anywhere normally, except when they are opened by a Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper can walk in one Door and out of another, with a choice of 25 locations across the world. If a Gatekeeper enters a door without a location in mind, then they will be randomly transported to any of the other Doors. If they enter with a location in mind, that is where they will appear. If any of the 25 Doors are locked, then all of the other Doors will lock too, rendering them unable to be used until the locked Door is unlocked."

*The Doors are located at religious or important sites - but usually, the religious site is built because of the Door. *

At the end of the second-to-last novels, the heroes of the story(known as the Gatekeepers) enter the Doors without knowing where to go. The result: they end up on different parts of the world as well as in different points in time.

Thinking of this, I questioned what happened to the Niantic Researchers. Hubert Farlowe proved that XM is capable of messing with time while Misty Hannah has proven that it can manipulate space and the idea of moving across spatial boundaries in the same dimension.

My theory is this:

Much like the Doors of the Gatekeepers, as a result of the XM Blast in Afghanistan-which I believe had the same level of power as Epiphany Night-were the Niantic Project researchers flung to different parts of the world at different points in time?

  1. Oh boy. Getting all timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly in here... Mind blown.

  2. (Wasn't this the plot of the last season of Being Erica?)

If we add in the possibility of crossing dimensions as well, then that could explain the N'zeer being "locked out".

So, could Hank Johnson literally be the key to the door?  We have viewed it as Hank's body being located at the 13MAGNUS nest, but we have also questioned just how old Hank Johnson and Azmati are.  Could it be that the 13MAGNUS nest was actually located at the site of Hank's body.

[What follows is entirely - likely groundless - speculation, but I'll leave it here.]

What if Hank is actually the one who locked the N'zeer away 5,000 years ago?  In the process, his body was separated from his mind and soul, leaving his body in a state of timeless death.  Others organized to ensure the door remained locked, forming 13MAGNUS and establishing their nest on the location of Hank's body to protect it.  At some point, Hank's mind and body were giving new life with XM taking the place of his detached body.  Eventually lead back to his body, 13MAGNUS killed his simulacrum in order to protect the the body.  Hank simulacrum, however, recursed shortly thereafter, retaining enough of his previous memories to find his way back into the 13MAGNUS next and discover his original body.  Developing a narrative to make sense of coming face-to-face with his own lifeless body, he determined that this must be the body that was shot and killed by the men in the cave.  Returning to Azmati, Azmati finally recognizes that this really was the same man that 13MAGNUS has protected in their nest for millennia.  This is the meaning behind his last words - Hank Johnson was always destined to lead 13MAGNUS because 13MAGNUS exists to protect Hank Johnson and his work.

Anti-magnus, meanwhile, sought to reopen the doors in order to reattain the power such connectivity provides.  Over the ages, however, this goal became entwined with the idea that the N'zeer were locked on the other side of the doors.  Clearly, reattaining what they lost means freeing the N'zeer.  Their efforts culminated in Epiphany Night, where Anti-magnus forces attempted to force the doors open from CERN using an intense blast of XM.  Unfortunately, they did not have the key as Hank Johnson's body was still in the 13MAGNUS nest and his simulacrum was headed to the Congo.  This most recent event, however, may have been far more successful.  Azmati may have been able to stop Jahan before the door fully opened, but it was open long enough to allow Hank, who's always been entangled with the doorways, and the Niantic sensitives, who were entangled by the Epiphany Night burst, to pass through before the door was resealed.

  3. Great reading Mustafa Said and I'm sure your theory is one of the closest to the truth. After all, why are they called portals.

  4. Cool theory.  Them being dispersed randomly around the world is interesting.  Being dispersed randomly through time is scary.

But if its true, maybe that's how Hank Johnson became Alexander the Great...
