Jim Lai both Niantic and Whydah had storied past - much like the Millennium Falcon. They're vessels that were involved in smuggling (goods and people) and/or piracy.

Another thing about shipwrecks - It gives me this image of ancient astronauts stranded on Earth and converted their ships into monolithic bases.
