Good afternoon, Investigators of Operation Essex. My name is Mustafa Said and welcome back to Today in Niantic History. 

Today is August 5th, 2014. One year ago today a document surfaced on the Niantic Project Investigator Board. It was a conversation between Roland Jarvis, leader of the Enlightened who at the time was an XM Entity, and Oliver Lynton-Wolfe, the father of the XM Scanner who was at the time aligned and employed with IQTech Research.

The conversation starts with Oliver trying to verify that Roland Jarvis, who had been killed in Zurich a year before this doc surfaced, was real. Roland confirmed the claim by referencing a mysterious story that involved a woman named Cassandra. After realizing that he was alive, Lynton-Wolfe begins to speak on how XM changed him. Jarvis warns Oliver that policies were being drafted to end the research on XM and Wolfe scoffs them in response. Jarvis later reveals that different branches of the US Government-namely the CIA, the NSA(which had already attempted to obtain info on XM research from Zeke Calvin in early Nov. 2012), DARPA(Which a member of the organization, Dr. Fiona Sharp,  had managed to successfully leave the group to work alongside IQTech in mid 2014) and SOCOM-had all been dangerously testing XM themselves. 


Jarvis then gets to the heart of the document: Another XM Anomaly was coming but it would be radically different than the other Anomalies we had experienced to date. It would possess supporting Anomalies in other parts of the world, in locations like Washington, D.C., Boston and New York. The goal of the Anomaly and what Jarvis wanted to achieve: He wanted Enlightened Agents across the world to stand and cast Enlightened Fields over these important locations as well as hold and control Portals in the areas. At the end of the document, Oliver asks how he can help and Jarvis tells him that he would be in touch.


This conversation kicked off the first major Anomaly ever, an Anomaly that to this day we still don’t know the full implications of: Operation #Cassandra .....

so, general question... we know that ADA passed the "turing test", we also have many studies showing how the turing test can actually be gamed by very complex programming and in fact you can write programs to create the allusion of AI for many (the chinese room thought experiment).  At what point are we certain that she began acting on her own and has not been following a program and orders by someone else.  Are we certain that those orders that she delivered for Jarvis and others and even the Katalena pre Zurich encounters, were not done on the orders of some programming.  NOt to call ADA a gun, but how certain are we she is not?  How can we prove, beyond doubt, that she is truly a separate entity working on her own and not some other programming? I would like to call for the evidence and proof that ADA is a complete entity. I am beginning to catalogue a list of Transdimensional Objects which appear to be inert artifacts, but, in fact, have actual technological capabilities when exposed to XM or present in a Nest.  Let us start with  the Shōnin Stone (which I believe to be broken at this point).  We know that it functions as something analogous to part of a circuit board or a key, depending on how you perceive it.  There is also Azmati's Dagger (or is it Alexander the Greats, I can't remember) that was used to test for simulacra. My feeling is that there are more such objects.  I am trying to catalogue them.   And as a thought experiment, what other objects must there be that have not yet been found?
