The Sticky-Wickets of Time ;)
Have been following Hubert Farlowe travels and adventure for awhile now. Mike Wissinger said something on this post - https://plus.google.com/u/0/105931060527409787825/posts/dSh2L6fDE5d that has me thinking. What is Hubert is not time travelling per se, but using the concept (as Mike mentioned) that Kureze mentions here - http://niantic.schlarp.com/investigation:videos:ada#kureze - could this be what Hubert is experiencing?
This idea of not time travelling per se, but being able to see all time at a place (pixel), has been around in many forms - here are a few - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternalism_(philosophy_of_time) and http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2012-09/book-excerpt-there-no-such-thing-time and The illusion of time : past, present and future all exist together - extended
of course the issue comes if Hubert sees things only or "interacts" and if others see him. If he sees and they see, it is like a ghost and that keeps time fairly unperturbed (aka changing things and messing with the flow of time, etc) of course people explain that away with well time changes, you change and never know so everything is fine... but honestly that gets into sticky wickets too because it is an ENORMOUS amount of energy and mass flow to be instantaneously changing the universe on that scale (I am not even touching time paradoxes, JUST physics people).
Granted people have tackled this (see The End of Eternity by Asimov as a way he tries to account - which some could argue The Ultimate and The Singularity could be a form of the "HIdden Centuries")

oh taking this to a weird extreme - could our Hubert be a pixel from another channel and somehow with extreme XM managed to jump channels.... (the cat is dead and alive)
ReplyDeleteHooray quantum theory. Is his causal domain so similar to ours that he bleeds across.
ReplyDeleteWhat if he is acting like a shaper, interacting with people in the past through the portal, they hide whatever he needs in a place he states, and then picks then up in our time?
ReplyDeleteI've always believed in the Novikov self-consistency principle, such that if Hubert is able to interact in past or future (which, given the nature of XM to interact with human culture, seems entirely plausible), then the fact is that he already has interacted in the past, and whatever happened is already part of our history.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the way that portals appear at sites of cultural significance, even though cultures can be fleeting, and in the sense that they seem to both fuel and be spawned from such human endeavors, I argue that the universe they connect us to does not share our understanding of time. If Hubert is tethered to this other universe, then like portals that appear to inspire the art that attracts them, he may be both cause and effect to certain events.
Oh boy. I didn't get enough sleep this week to even try to process that. lol. His post today is another location with history. He's definitely getting all timey-wimey in some way. The idea of him being able to see (and possibly interact with) all previous and future colors of the "pixel" is a brilliant idea though!
