Essex agents. What would you define as a simulacrum ? And how do you think Edgar Allan Wright  is fighting to avoid becoming one ?

There has been a suggestion that I am a simulacrum.  I reject these assertions.  I believe that my state is what happens when one fights becoming a simulacrum.  I ask you to theorize what the state and powers of a simulacrum are.  I am meditating on this.  Little is known, but when I first saw that word, it struck me.

I will return with questions..

  1. I can think of two things: Patterning and Plato's theory on the two types of simalcra from the Republic. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulacrum.

Plato talks of an exact replica and a replica that is distorted in order to seem more real from the perspective of the viewer.

Media theorists, Jean Baudrillard, talks about the danger of a doppelganger, that the simulacrum threatens the difference between true and false, real and imaginary.

Also this reminds me of KlADA, what happens when you pretend so long that you become what you pretend?

  2. Edgar Allan Wright aren't you? You have no impact on the story, no appearances at any events, you are merely a means to deliver information. A role easily taken by anyone with access to a computer. I haven't seen your relationships to anyone else stand out. Perhaps i am missing something.

  3. few more thoughts on this subject from the essex chat

so are we thinking that the artifacts are the metaphors that Lightman and Nagassa are talking abuot?
and if so, are they a metaphor for Hank's memories?
    Drew • 9:52 AM

that's an interesting thought.  immortality would be more of a fortune&glory situation, then

Since it's his primary goal, I expect Ilya to pop up before long - ADA working to unlock immortality becomes either a market threat or potential ally for him.  If his conversation with Schubert got beyond the planning phases I wonder if he'd have the necessary apparatus to restore Hank?
oh, that reminds me - I need to respond to EAW's simulacrum post...

what's the difference between a simulacrum and a homuculus
    Drew • 10:03 AM

Is it a reasonable theory that the glyph that looks like a contraction of "Shaper" and "Self" could be a representation of our term "Simulacrum?"
    Daniel Beaudoin • 10:10 AM

a "homunculus" is a miniature person.

    Synthetic human?
    Lou • 10:18 AM

It is often to be found as a metaphor for that which senses when you sense things.
Historically, it was believed that a person was born from a sperm that possessed an extant tiny person within.
    Jim • 10:19 A

Must have been retired the same way as the cranium drills. 😧
    Lou • 10:21 AM

Keep in mind also that the homunculus is associated with the alchemical quest for immortality. This comes from the idea of harmony between the larger and the smaller.
    Jim • 10:21 AM

the nerd in me was reminded of Full Metal Alchemist, and their use of Homunculi
    Drew • 10:23 AM

I did not want to go there...but I know the reference.
    Lou • 10:24 AM

    mommy ?

The Pythagorean concept of metempsychosis seems to be the most appropriate here
    Jim • 10:24 AM

Which is to say, that we may consider the "pattern" as being the Platonic vital which animates the physical "construct".
Patterns travel the earth in constructed form, experiencing the alchemical refinement of the physical (solve et coagula.)
Perhaps the secret being chased here is the secret of the process that happens between the dissolution and the congealment of pattern/form.
    Is this making sense?

  4. the comparison of the modeled construct of the brain using Homunculus is not useful to begin with as it is an outdated by the model has been re-evaluated with MRI activity models of the brain based on real time observation. ADA is on this like white on rice somehow. Using Auditory and Visual stimulation using GLyphs/Runes and auditory stimulus to get the results that KLADA got was impressive. However I think that ADA wants to achieve what Roland Jarvis has achieved with his journey. This is real estate that ADA would love to capitalize on.

  5. I'll always come back to the philosophy of the mind and what it means to 'feel' real.
Solaris type copies, made from an outsiders interpretation of a No longer existant being; are not accurate copies but from their own perspective would consider themselves valid entities, despite the knowledge that they are only an approximation of the original being.

Solopolists would argue that the secondary simulacrum is not a valid entity... That the original being has died and this is a new entity... Despite any perceived links or memories from the original self. However even in this situation, knowing that you are an incomplete copy... You're still likely to consider your own viewpoint as relevant and valid inclusive of unoriginal memories.

Some individuals may suffer philosophical malaise if they know for certain that they are not who they think they are, but eventually most should come to accept who they think they are and proceed as such without hangups. Assuming there is a bulk of records pertaining to the original beings life, any simulacrum could assess this to gage how alike the original they think they are, but no good is likely to come of that.

The worrying question for me is: Why need there be simulacrum at all? Why make inaccurate copies that may appear to be valid entities but possibly lack certain qualities or are different in some way to the original. What needs to be changed or what is unable to be copied that makes simulacrums like energy Jarvis necessary?

Also concerned that these simulacrums could be p-zombies... Appear to be sentient beings but are only that in appearance... Actually have no internal monologue or sense of self but portray themselves as though they are complete beings. That would make Ingress more of a horror.
